Exactly this. They apologized for breaking the rules and asked for forgiveness. That puts the ball back in the other side's court to decide if they want to forgive or keep casting stones. If they choose to keep casting stones, then eff em. I like how this presser went. Neither Crane nor anyone else in the org needs to do anything more than apologize for breaking the rules, that's it. I know people want the org to take a crap on their own title but given the climate of the league back then, I do not feel they need to do that. Plus it's all speculative on what would've happened if not for the sign stealing. I liked Crane's very subtle call out to Manfred when he was asked about the other dozen teams that likely cheated and whether those teams' GMs and managers need to be disciplined, "I'll let the commissioner take care of that." All eyes are on you commish.
Bregman: Do you regret the sign stealing scheme? I am sorry. I am remorseful. I regret it. Do you wish you guys hadn't done it? Yes. Report out there said Cora & Beltran were the ring leaders & you guys were powerless? George said that's not true, no one put a gun to our head. Are Beltran & Cora to blame? This is a team & this team today is saying we're sorry. This is a team. This isn't one person or two people. It's not that. It's bigger than that. We're saying sorry. ... This is a team thing. This isn't any individual & we're sorry.
Drellich is and always will be an absolute joke of a reporter when it comes to the Astros. He always had a grudge against the team and now that he’s all high and mighty as a more recognized national reporter he gets to spew his Astros hate to a much wider audience. He’s the last person anyone should take seriously when reporting on the Astros.
The only delusion is you thinking this is an isolated incident from one team. But you keep on listening to the coastal media and Stan-ing for them. Do some research and see just how many times other teams have been accused of the same things.
The media will come after Crane now. They won’t be satisfied until the team is sold and moved to another city.
I think he is putting the target on him to take some of the heat off the team. He won't be able to take all of it, but he can get people talking about him.
Reddick: Why didn't you stop it? Hard to say. Seems like it was a part of the way things were working that way. We're sorry for what we did, how it was handled & wasn't handled at times as well. It happened, we asked for forgiveness of everyone & move on & try to move on to 2020 & winning. Feel you need to reach out to Dodgers/Yankees? I don't think so man. Why not? Don't feel like we should. If you were on the other side... Tough to say. I can't say how I would feel or act. I don't know if I'd say anything. It's tough to say, you never know. Speculation about wearable devices last year? No, not to my knowledge. If there's that much talent, why go about it like this? I don't think it was neccessary. We were a good team & still are to this day. One of those unfortuante things where we didn't make the best judgement call. We take full responsibility, we feel bad, we're sorry for it & move forward & only thing we can do. Move forward & win and that'll be the best thing for us. Scheme help you? I don't hear much anyways. I can't say it did, can't say it didn't.
That doesn't impact what the Astros chose to do. They were caught and are at the center of attention right now. Why are you guys even defending them?
They weren’t caught. They were ratted out. What they did was wrong, I’m not defending the actions. I’m defending the right to do it. If your counterparts were doing something similar that technically wasn’t illegal I would expect a forward thinking franchise to do the same and more efficiently. What they did wasn’t technically illegal. Wrong? Probably. Against the written rules? No. Unwritten rules? Possibly
Because it's our prerogative I for one, refuse to be scapegoated for a league wide issue. The Yankees at a minimum need to be investigated with the same thoroughness as the Astros. There is more than probable cause to check things out over there. Until then, the haters can eat my exhaust.
