^^^thats the biggest problem I thought of as well.

what will the other prisoners will be doing to them, I don't think they will be socializing and I'm sure the guards will let the population have their fun with them. I've heard a child molester has it the worse in prison, I bet these guys will be close to that status

My concern is that there will be a lax in housing and utilization. I don't want terrorists on the sides of the road picking up trash near the local elementary school.

Supermax units makes sense because it is a system which deals with the worst of the worst already, and operates with emphasis on isolationism.

I can't and won't see any other way regarding housing or usage.

I would want assurances and commitments from state representatives that these fine terrorists (who really would like to cut your head off regardless of political slant) will only be housed in Supermax wings or units recognized by the American Correctional Association..and nothing but that..at all.

Besides the Montana playpen with all two employees, no one else wants these guys...Nobody is "excited" to have the distinguished guests. No politician is waving their arms saying over here Obama, bring em to my town...

It doesn't really matter what the Montana prison is now. With Federal money, regulations, and standards, the prison will definitely be up to any requirements we need, and will have whatever staff is needed. It's a stimulus and Gitmo closing solution all in one.

Well first off that's not quite true.

Michigan Senator Levin Is Open to ‘Guantánamo North’ in Michigan

And to your concern, I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong, but I can almost assure you that having detainees picking up trash on the side of the road will not happen. But even if it did, what would be the harm? No, these guys will never see the light of day outside a prison if they are brought here.

Not that I know of. Some people have been murdered though(inmates).

Prison staff do alot more than just keep the inmates behind bars. Especially in a unit where everyone is locked down most of the time. Like feeding and maintaining a lvl of care for these idiots. If your only concern is that they don't escape, leave them where they are at. They will get better care there than they will in Florence.

I don't care where we put them as along as they are fed and housed adequately in an properly staffed institution.

But really though, this whole discussion of whether to bring them to US soil is beside the point if you really want to know the truth.

Think about why there was/is a Gitmo in the first place.

It was built to keep detainees off of American soil and to keep them away from American courts and the American judicial system. This was on purpose! That really is the discussion. Because if you bring them here, they must be under US jurisdiction. And that opens up a whole new can of worms.

Obama was right! Bush left a huge mess to clean up and it’s going to take time to unravel the web of legal pitfalls that have to be worked through.

This raises though a very tough question.

What do you do with the folks you capture overseas who are bent on committing terrorist acts? They aren't soldiers in an army who simply go home to their families, they rejoin and in many cases become leaders and heroes to their movements.

If you capture them - is simply being part of the Taliban a crime? Can you put someone in life in prison under a fair trial in the U.S.? Do you try them in their home country, which is a monkey court and either not real justice or a joke and they will be released?

Or do you simply take no POW's - and just kill? That's a violation of the Geneva Conventions as well.

There's a problem in that the Geneva Conventions never had to deal with "holy warriors" - individuals who will never give up the fight.

I think for these guys, if it can be demonstrated they are involved with a group like the Taliban, Al Qaeda, etc.....holding them indefinitely may be the only solution.

Are you crazy? They're charging people a small fortune to visit that place now.

I like that idea. I doubt they seriously consider it, but I'd like to know how much it would cost to reopen the prison, and update it.

They could import some Great White Sharks with lasers on the their heads to make sure no one escapes!

Sean Connery would have sex with Alex Trebeck's mother there while he escaped though...
