mattj is too good and too cautious to get into it with rich 610 loves rich too much to ask him move to a different time slot, and moving mattj to the afternoon was the only step up from the night shift at the time of 'john and lance departure' that's why they're paired together i personally liked wexy and mattj during the night shift, it was fantastic for me, i was 18 delivering chinese food in the evenings, it was a blast listening to them and the rox games and then idiot fans that call during the post game
Rich said that matt was ACTING like a douchebag, and sorry, but in a way he was. The caller was totally out of line and ridiculous, and I tended to agree with what Matt was saying, but he went ape**** on the guy and was pretty much yelling at him. Rich was basically saying that Matt shouldn't yell at callers or call them "douchebags" just because they might make a ridiculous call...and I agree But that caller was a douche
While I like Matt Jackson now quite a bit more than I did several years ago when his whole shtick was nothing more than biting Jim Rome's style, he does come off a little strong at times. I heard the exchange on the radio and while I didn't agree with the caller's point, Matt could have handled it a different way. And should have. No need to go 'douchbag' on a caller. If you can't articulate your argument without resorting to elementary name-calling then you need to find another line of work rather than mass communications. Matt has always struck me as the little, non-athletic, pudgy dude who feels lucky just to be able to hang with the jocks. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- it just translates and comes across every once in a while like he's trying a bit too hard and doesn't quite have the chops to defend his position. It seems petty. I know we all like him because he's a big Rockets supporter and we see him as 'everyman' in the local talk radio spectrum, but nonetheless I would have to agree with Rich Lord in this instance. And I hate doing that. Because I can't figure out how Rich Lord still has a job in radio.
Haha. I remember a caller a week ago, after the loss to Arizona. He said we should be starting Dan Orlovsky instead of Matt Schaub. I thought it was a legitimate case for being called an idiot.
I tend to agree that some callers aren't too bright, but would we be cool if we were the one being called a douchebag? Or maybe a caller who had the same opinion as us -- and after we find ourself nodding our head in agreement while we're driving your car we subsequently hear some random local radio host totally lambaste the guy with not-so-clever epithets? If so, I totally applaud that consistency. But we're all going to disagree on things. Politics. Religion. And, heaven forbid, sports. My thing is I wouldn't feel like I had a legitimate right to use my bully pulpit (since I have the microphone) to call a man out using pretty stupid names simply because that man has a different opinion than I do. Hell, it's just life. We all disagree about things. I think it speaks more to how we are as a person in how we react to those situations. And, if we're gonna use names, at least come up with something a little better than the now-ubiquitous "douchebag".
Who actually calls into a sports radio station? only douchebags and and idiots, who the hell else would waste their time? anyway, I stopped listening to 610 because Rich Lord is a such a ****ing idiot.
I remember about four or five years ago a caller called him out on this. its not so obvious now, he's developing his own niche, but you could hear it a few years ago. and I thought the same thing listening to him last Monday
Yeah, that's usually right about the time when I hit the radio dial in disgust and find something, anything else to listen to. Callers can be infuriatingly stupid, especially in postgame shows.
Yes, on one show callers were questioning how Rich Lord could pass up on an opportunity to co-host the Rome show, but Rich said he had a date with twelve hot chicks(his daughters b-day party). I call BS on this and think he's making up this excuse to protect his ego. Seems like you could host the show then show up to her party, but matt was better without him there so I'm not complaining.
I can't stand Rich Lord. I listen to their show because I enjoy listening to Matt. I'm with you guys in that I loved when Matt and Wex were together on the Night Shift. That was when I really got into listening to sports talk radio. Matt and Wex are the only reasons I listen to 610. I continue to hold out hope that when their contracts are up, Matt and Wex make the jump to 1560. I personally would prefer them to Sean and John in the afternoons, but I know that many others like them. The new head honcho has made a lot of changes at 610 and many of them are for the worse. There are more non-sports segments, they have a segment called the whiner line now where callers are recorded complaining, and they are taking more callers lately. Supposedly this guy drove a Dallas station into the ground and I'm afraid that's what he is going to do at 610.
I don't think Rich Lord is particularly boring or a pain to listen to, I just think he's somewhat of an idiot and his sports knowledge and overall general knowledge come in too question far too frequently.
I don't think Rich Lord is that bad. I much prefer him to to John Lopez, and most everyone on 1560 (which apparently is almost exclusively college football and commercials these days) outside of Lance Zierlein.
