You had me at "wearing my hair in a freaking bun because it‘s nearly to my ass"... ;)

Smartass me says don't give up and hit on every single women that you meet, whether they like it or not...In class, outside of class, during an azz cleaning, where ever...btw, It's not like you're in Austin, Dallas or Houston, you're in f'n Lawton for pete's sake...it's probably a sausage fest there being near a military base...

Rational me says that's not pathetic...pathetic is living in Oklahoma, but that's another story...Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll learn to adjust to being lonely...just go with the flow and let the azz come to you...

Just paint your fingernails black, get a goofy hat and some GIGANTIC GOGGLES and you shouldn't have a problem meeting women.

    Chicks really did GIGANTIC GOGGLES.

I can relate...well not on the same level. I now work and all I want to do is just go home and relax instead of going out and party like I used to in college. All but one of my close friends is single. So I feel left out when they don't invite me anymore to go and party. :( I'm so done with going out scene...I'll rather to stay home and watch movies. Boring, I guess.

Anyway, you're going to be there for the program and when you're done, you'll be back on the track here in Houston. Just suck it up, I guess. Who knows, you might will see lot of action at the hospital like Grey's Anatomy!(Did anyone see the episode last night?) :D

Even in small towns there must be hookers. Problem solved.

Lynus, there's a reason people flock to Austin. Look at it this way... if you were going to school here you'd probably flunk out due to excessive partying. I have to admit to being perplexed about your fellow female nursing students' behavior towards you, however. Sex is a great stress reducer. Why on earth aren't they taking advantage of your services? Tell them you're better than Xanax for anxiety!

I would say “Thanks, mom” but she likes my hair. So does most everyone I know, but that’s neither here nor there. I put that part in there more for comedic effect than anything else. It doesn’t look too bad when it’s up, but I digress.

As to ‘being professional,’ I have a degree already. I’ve been a ‘professional’ for years. I decided to grow my hair out when I was a ‘professional,’ because I was fortunate enough to be in a profession where such silly judgmental things don’t matter. I then decided I needed a change to go into nursing, a profession where things like hair length don‘t matter.

Try reading the OP. You’re supposed to be a seasoned veteran here before you ignore such things. I think it’s in the bylaws somewhere. :D

Dude. You’re 29. Shouldn’t you know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’? C’mon man….there‘s a broad age range here. I’m not trying to ‘kick it with the college kids.’ I want to hang and unwind with my classmates, I’ll give you that, but I didn’t say anywhere that I only wanted to know where the parties were.

I already said that there’s plenty going on in this town. That’s why I mentioned the university and military presence here in the OP. Again, try reading that. The issue is that while my classmates range in age, they all act like 40-year-old housewives with 4 kids at home. And they don’t do anything. If you were in the military, I'm assuming that you know the importance of team-building and group cohesion to ensure success. Such things do include the occasional party, but simple activities in which peers can get to know one another are more beneficial than partying. I'm including study groups here as well.

    --

If you read nothing else, and if you're still following this saga, read this part:
I forgot to mention the seniors when I was feeling sorry for myself last night (TheAce, I‘ll concede this point to you, as well.) The seniors are the same age-range and male-to-female ratio as my junior class, and they’re generally cool as hell. They always call me when they’re up to something, which is, of course, nice.

I could just hang out with them, and I mostly do. But we're on entirely different schedules. I literally never see them at school or in the hospital. And next year they will be gone, leaving my lame-ass class to set the example for next years juniors.

The seniors are always asking me ‘what’s wrong’ with the juniors. They sense the lack of camaraderie in my class; the lack of any bonding in an effort to get through a tough program. The faculty got on the seniors for not encouraging us more. Then the faculty began to realize what I’ve been griping about here. Now they are telling us that if we knew what was best for us, we’d try to work on all of this. For example: Student Nurses Association (SNA). Each class has officers and makes things happen. We don’t have one. The seniors do, but we don’t. I’m the only one who was interested.

I'm bolding this to illustrate the difference between the junior and senior classes: The Thursday prior to Thanksgiving, the seniors hosted an early Thanksgiving pot-luck, BYOB party. They invited all the juniors. Out of ~50 people, only I and one other guy showed up from the junior class.

I mean c'mon. 2 out of 50?? Wtf. Despite those of you who think I need a haircut and to 'settle down,' this isn't just a 'me' thing here.

You know when there's always a few people in a given group who are loners, maybe don't socialize, study together or what have you? The entire group is like that. That's what is so baffling to me.

Along with the general boredom of people like me, our lack of cohesiveness as a peer group stands to hurt us quite a bit.

And again, I wasn’t looking for advice or suggestions. Just ranting/venting. I said so in a later post on the first page. I suppose I should have said so in the OP.

Re: nursing school in Texas: OU accepted me, and I'm in a hurry, so this is where I am. I could have waited another year and re-taken more pre-reqs, but again: I was and am in a hurry.

I'll tell you what to do man... You need to get piss drunk and go streakin. You'll have a blast.

And you can't tell me there's no chicks up there in nursing... I work in the Medical field and trust me there's women all the time. Even if they are fat.... It's cool. It's not like you're going to be leaving their your whole life right?

You be the fun one and people will join. If you are boring, which I highly doubt, then do something. That's how you get it done. Throw a party and invite all the folks you really like. I'm not talking about any Star Wars nerds or anything like that.

I am not complaining about San Francisco, I was trying to illustrate to Lynus that sometimes you have to tell the anti-social people (a good-chuck of law students, not sure about nursing)to **** off and just let yourself know that you are at the finishline.

However, my uplifting story went into a rant about how I haven't had time to see any part of San Francisco and how some of these law school students (damn prep-school, harvard/princeton/elite liberal college ones) just don't have any social skills. And the put themselves through a miserable experience and hate people who are just happy to be there.

But I am hoping next semester I can see more of San Fran. :D

Surprisingly enough, there's plenty of longhairs here. And I don't know what world you live in, but the LAST thing you'll find is a 33-year-old Sergeant Major. Those guys are usually around 45-50.

And I might fit your description of a 'misfit,' but I know very few married people, my age or otherwise, here or at home. I do have to say that I'm super-happy that I don't share your vision of what life is supposed to be.

Note the above re: long hair. There's this rockin' heavy metal bar here. A total dive called The Railhead. It's awesome. I go when I can. Hell, I might go tonight.

I said earlier I make friends easily when I have an 'in.' I've never been one to randomly meet strangers, which is part of the problem, I suppose.

All I really want is two things:
    1) camaraderie amongst my class and
    2) to get out every once in awhile.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

Frank the Tank I am not, but thanks for the suggestion.

And there's plenty of chicks. I worked in a hospital for years....I know what's up with all that.

I never said anything about what I think life should be, I was just telling you that most other people, and probably all the God fearing young folks of Oklahoma don't understand you and therefor are not given to socializing with you. You might can warm them up with persistence and engaging attitude but you will have to coax them out of their comfort zone. Most people choose to associate with others who reinforce their values, not challenge them.

My experience was as a 26 year old longhair type that started over in a professional program at a conservative school with 19 and 20 year olds and I was definitely out of their clique.

Im not actually bowlin league at Alpha this season, but I practice there when I run by to see my proshop guy who sets up my equipment (Randy, helluva great guy if any of yall ever need bowling equipment)

Would love to do a bowling night out there if we could get some east side Cfers to agree to a weekend night(rockn bowl or whatever)...Im always up for a CF get together. :D

If they think you pathetic for being 33 with long hair, what must they think of me? ;)

keep fighting Lynus...the boredom will surely be worth it in the end.
