Wade, Love, Rubio, and Cousins are all franchise players you can build around.

    Jonas...we'll see.

Yes, this draft is only 3 deep in elite talent: Davis, Robinson, and Beal. After that there is a severe drop off, and I doubt Robinson or Beal will be available at #5.

Maybe I would say, get the deal set up with Orlando and tell them, "if Robinson or Beal drops to #5 then the deal is off". Then, if neither are available at #5, you pull the trigger and get Howard in a Rockets uniform.

We're still going to have 3-4 years of mediocrity this way too. A good case scenario would be that from picks 5 an 8, we get one all-star. Trade away players like KMart, Lowry, Scola, etc. and add an all-star, and we'd still be a .500 team. Sure, that team would likely be better as time goes on if guys like Morris, DMo, etc. may also blossom, but so would tanking for a top pick hoping it happens in a Dwight Howard/Duncan/Lebron type of draft.

There's risk no matter what. And no one can say exactly what will happen... except that if we get Dwight Howard, most likely we'll be very good next season. Long term wise, I see uncertainty with any decision.

I know you don't see it now, but this draft is the one that you want to look for gems like that. You are talking about a team that needs a little more scoring, better defense on the wing and a viable post presence. This draft has that all throughout the second round.
We are pretty much passing up our future team that we have been asking for for the past 3 seasons for a one year rental of a player who does not want to be here.
Something just doesn't sound right about that.

After a year with DH12.... they wont have a lottery pick , they will be a solid playoff team , look where they were without him.

    What that means -

That draft pick goes to NJ to satisfy the Twill trade.

You traded all your assets to aquire DH12.

You have to wait another season to suck enough for an early lotto pick.

Dwight bolting sets the franchise back at least 2-3 years.

I dont think it likely that Howard would walk away from $25m+ to play where he wants ..... but thats the risk Morey would be taking and as shown above the consequences.

Im less concerned with Howard bolting for NJ than I am his back issues. For this reason , I keep the picks drafting the best big and wing player available at each selection.

I guess our main difference of opinion is based on what we think of this draft. I see a lot of teams willing to move down, and Morey wanting to move up for the sake of getting Dwight Howard. That doesn't scream incredibly deep draft for me.

Only time will tell what this draft class is really like. I just happen to think the Rockets management are generally very good when it comes to scouting young players. So I'll trust their judgement on this year's class.

Easy, let's take Howard for a season, win the NBA championship with him and force him to resign with us? If we can't do that, what's the point?

I bet you there will be at least 3 guys that have a better rookie campaign/career than Robinson and Beal. This draft is so unpredictable after Davis.

Easily my favorite Rocket right now .... Hope he continues to improve.

After a two year wait - the year with DH wont be a lotto pick and will go to .... you guessed it , the Nets.

Something I noticed over the past few weeks reading Parsons twitter - while the rest of the team is taking a vacation , Parsons is always in the guy or on the court. He's got a solid work ethic too , dont sell him short.

He may never be a 20/10 guy but if he can be a 16/6/4 type with his defense .... thats a hell of a player.

He only lacks a consistent jumper from being that player .... Defenses dared him to shoot over the top as the season wore on and he was still able to get to and finish at the rim. Make them honor that outside shot and he gets a lot more opportunities to drive.

EXACTLY what i was thinking .. i have a feeling that if we get howard .. he will take us to the playoffs we will all be happy and then he will leave and we will spend the next years watching the draft picks we traded become all stars just saying if carlos guillen and freddy garcia were playing for the astros when they made the world series (and the year before) we would have had won atleast one. Instead we got 11 good starts and a first round exit .. howard will lead to the same thing

If we could get Barnes and Drummond. I would be really tempted to stay put.

Wow, the list of those #8 draft picks isn't impressive. Besides Rudy Gay, it pretty much sucks ...

Why would I want a big whiny baby that has no idea where he wants to play, a guy that just got a major back sugery that sidelined him for the rest of last season, a guy that doesn't even wants to play in Houston and he only has 1 season left on his contract....

If the Rockets manage to get those two high lottery draft picks, they are extremely lucky and if they decided to throw those picks to Orlando for Dwight Howard, they will really regret it almost as much as the Trailblazers drafting Greg Oden instead of Kevin Durant. Once Dwight Howard leaves Houston to sign with another team, the Rockets are going to feel exactly like the Cavs did when Lebron James went on National Television just to announce he is signing with the Heat...

Well Rudy Gay is good but I think Brandon Knight is also a very impressive Rookie if you ask me. He only played one season so far and he is playing with the Pistons so to me, he's a great pick at the 8th. To me, its not that the 8th picks sucks, it depends on the team... If a smart team that has a good scouting report, they will most likely find a good player. Most of those teams are terrible at drafting anyway. Only Houston are one of those teams that drafted Rudy Gay in the 8th spot.

And Rudy Gay is only a solid player, not a franchise player.

yes those picks at 5 & 8 are not impressive, but the list should be "who was available at 5 et 8" and not who was picked, i'm pretty sure there would be more interesting players ...

This part loses me. Sets us back from what? More 9th seed finishes? More years of hoping to maybe squeak into the playoffs in a league where more teams make the playoffs than don't? I don't see what's attractive by that...and I don't see forward momentum to pull us out of that, absent this kind of big move.

If Howard leaves, then the direction is clear. If he stays, then the direction is clear. Neither one of those, in all likelihood, keep you stuck in the neutral position we've been in for way too long now.
