J-Smoove was exactly the person I was thinking of! We could certainly use his athletism.

    Um yes?

Since when is Love, Cousins, or Rubio a superstar? They are very good role players imo.

There are MAYBE 10 superstars in the league (guys you can without a double build around and wouldn't hesitate for a second to give them the max): Durant, Kobe, Wade (maybe not anymore), Lebron, Dwight, Paul, Rose, Dirk (could be past his prime, not 100% on him).

That is 8, I'll stick by 10 because I'm probably forgetting some.

All else being said, if it was JUST Dwight the argument could be made, but in reality getting Dwight = Getting Deron ALSO.

Deron, Dwight, Lee, fillers (I'm guessing solid fillers when you combine Morey's ability to get role players & having a superstar to attract older FAs looking for a ring). That is a damn good way to start. This team's role players are built to win now if we add a star to the roster. Not in 3-5 years as it would be the case drafting a #5 and #8 guy.

Adding to this, there isn't even a guarantee we'll get a Love, Rubio, or Cousins . We could end up with a Jeff Green, or imo much worse a Rudy Gay, who we are forced to pay the max to, while we debate on Cfans does he even make the team better, or would we be better off without him.

    ..........

I don't even know what to say to this.

Role players? Battier is a Role Player. Lee is a role player.

Love, Cousins, and Rubio are rising stars.

Whatever point you were trying to make was blown when you called Kevin Love a "role player." That's absurd, with all due respect. He's a star, not a role player. He may not be a "superstar," at least not yet, but Love is most definitely a star player. The jury may still out on Rubio and Cousins, but it's far to early to dump them in the "role player" bin at the local NBA player shop. In fact, the odds are decent that one or both will be stars in this league. Maybe not "superstars," but stars.

So all year all anyone wanted was Dwight to Houston and to take a chance on convincing him to stay and now that it is a possibility everyone is against it? Nice.

That's what I'm sayin.... I'll take Drummond and Lamb and start building now.... rather than waste a year ringside on another D12 drama.

People overestimate picks 5 and 8, especially in this draft where it's 1-deep, sort of 2-deep, and everyone else kind of meh.

I would prefer one year of relevance with Dwight Howard, and even if he leaves, tank hard for a "true" top lottery pick, like top-3 type.

I have the same sentiments. Everybody was for taking a risk on howard.....now most seem to be very reluctant. It's clutchfans for you

Yeah, but no one can tell the future.

A top 5 pick is a top 5 pick...superstars have been taken in the spot before...

When Stan went off in that interview and then D12 came in and showed himself to be a lying 2 faced turd - I was done with him.

Howard would be probably a smart move, low risk, high reward immediately

2 first round picks, smart move, medium risk, high potential, super high excitement

either way I would be happy.

Meh, you are talking about 3-4 years of misery as opposed to rebuilding now in a deep draft. If we rebuild now, we could be the new OKC in that same time frame.

I'd rather keep the picks if we go completely young which means moving Scola and Martin and not picking up the Dalembert option or trading him. I'm fine with Camby because he could be good for Drummond if we get him. However, if we are going to try and really compete for a playoff spot next year instead of playing the young guys I'd rather get Howard.

This is a bad argument, because it implies that teams can't scout player just take then blindly. And that all drafts are created equal. I don't care if Wade was taken with pick #5. Or that Dirk was pick #9. That has no bearing on this draft where we have these set of players. If this draft really is that deep, teams like Toronto and Sacramento would be desperately keeping their picks, similar to how Sacramento kept their 5th pick for Cousins two years ago. And the Rockets would be trading up to get their next superstar, not trading them for Dwight Howard.

The funny thing is, all of OKC's big 3 (Durant, Westbrook, Harden) were taken before the #5 pick.

Or teams like the Kings already have a young big man that they are more than happy with.

If you see the consensus around Kings land, their fans seem to think it is past time they stop picking in the top 10 and start to build around Cousins and get a sure thing and not another prospect.

Toronto LOVES Lowry, at least that's the word...so why not skip on him?

    Teams value these guys differently.

Seems more of us just don't see the risk in taking Howard who has made it pretty clear that he does not want to play in Houston.

Would rather get two young players who would want to play here, two guys we could develop. When is the last time the Rockets had a top 5 pick? I just don't want to see it go to waste should we get one.

To put it in perspective, here's the last 10 picks at #5 and #8:

    #5
    02 - Nikoloz Tskitishvili
    03 - Dwyane Wade
    04 - Devin Harris
    05 - Raymond Felton
    06 - Shelden Williams
    07 - Jeff Green
    08 - Kevin Love
    09 - Ricky Rubio
    10 - DeMarcus Cousins
    11 - Jonas Valančiūnas

    #8
    02 - Chris Wilcox
    03 - TJ Ford
    04 - Rafael Araújo
    05 - Channing Frye
    06 - Rudy Gay
    07 - Brandan Wright
    08 - Joe Alexander
    09 - Jordan Hill
    10 - Al-Farouq Aminu
    11 - Brandon Knight

So you've got about a 50/50 shot of drafting an impact player at #5 and a 10% chance of drafting an impact player at #8. Most importantly, only 1 of the above 10 players is a franchise player that you can build around (D Wade).
