There is the possibility that we won't have the roster to compete for the 9th spot.

    You guys are insane.

5th and 8th picks are RANDOM. Bobcats had that kind of lotto last year and look how both picks became essential busts. (last year's draft was weaker, but I feel the point still stands).

Odds of getting a superstar @ the 5th or 8th pick is SUPER LOW (and that is the ONLY thing the Rockets need at this point, more role players).

Lets take a look at the last few years of 5th and 8th picks:

2011: Jonas Valančiūnas / Brandon Knight

    2010: Cousins / Aminu

2009: Rubio (It seems it takes 2 #5 home run picks to make your team solid, him and Love have a chance to make something good in Minny) / Jordan Hill

2008: Kevin Love (pretty damn good player, still not sure if he can lead a team to a title, he could be the exception to my rule on this list) / Joe Alexander

2007: Jeff Green / Brendan Wright

2006: Shelden Williams / Rudy Gay (ah the infamous year, I still believe this guy is an overpaid role player like Joe Johnson, that puts a franchise in a HORRIBLE position where you don't want him to walk but you don't want to pay him the Max).

2005: Raymond Felton / Channing Frye

Pretty much 100% of #8 picks are role players at best. Some talent @ #5 picks with Cousins, Rubio, and Love. Still not convinced ANY of them are franchise players.

To add on to these facts: Howard coming would make it 95% that Deron is coming with him, imo. Add that to the fact that Morey is a MASTER at adding role players.

I don't care if Howard is a 1 year rental or a new franchise center.

Fact is Howard gives us either:
#1: A franchise center (and likely a franchise PG to go with it).
#2: A team that is Bobcat level bad without talent, and a good chance to get a top 2 pick where your chance of getting a franchise player is MUCH higher.

I think MKG will be better than Parsons( MKG has Kobe-like worh-ethic)

MKG is younger too, i love Parsons, but he could be a 1 year wonder( i hope not), but i wouldnt mind selling high on Parsons considering that he will turn 24 later this year, and MKG is barely 18

I'd rather blow the team up and try to get draft picks and rebuild properly. Just sayin, cause I really think Dwight is going to resign somewhere else. But if we can't get who we want through the draft, we could probably get better value through trading Dwight later. Who knows?

Well looking at this list shows that if you have BOTH picks there is a pretty good chance that one of them is going to turn out to be a good player.

We would have a ridiculously athletic rotation with Dragic, MKG, White, D-Mo, Drummond, Parsons/Morris, and Patterson

I imagine Parsons and/or Morris will be necessitating luggage before or during Thursday's events.

Trading away great assets for a one year rental on a headcase like D12 is just stupid!

If we get the picks we aren't so desperate anymore. I'd only ship them off if Howard signs an extension in Houston. Since that most likely won't happen I'd keep the picks and take two of the top eight prospects. After resigning Gogi and bringing Motiejunas over, we'd have an exciting young core that could be special down the line.

THERE IS NO ONE WHO WILL BE AVAILABLE AT 5 or 8 WHO IS ANYWHERE CLOSE TO DWIGHT. SMH, we could make our own superteam with Dwight, Deron, Motie, Parsons...... How could you not want to do this??? If he leaves, we tank...WIN-WIN!

MKG can guard three positions and get to the rack with vigor. There's no reason why he can't coexist in the backcourt with Dragic. Also, we've seen Parsons bring the ball up in the same backcourt as Dragic. They can both play the 2 guard. It's just a very, very versatile and athletic lineup with those 2 playing together.

No if he leaves Les will not tank. Les hasn't tanked before so why would he start?

We'll sign some vet Center like Varejao or something and continue on shooting for that 14th pick.

Also...Great players have been drafted at 5 before...

    This.

    1) We build a contender when Dwight resigns, Deron comes, we still have Dmo, Parsons.
    2) He leaves, we tank get Andrew Wiggins!

LMAO! So YOU'D rather have a one year rental on D12 (with him bein a diva all year) rather than drafting a Kevin Love or Rubio or Cousins.... lol

even funnier is people saying, "well when D12 leaves we can tank..." and what... GET THE 5th OR 8TH PICK????? lol

I don't like the chances of Dwight staying, which is why we should trade K-Mart and Scola for a legit PF. Then trade Dalembert and Kyle to move up in the draft. Draft Drummond and Lamb. Then eventually trade Bud, maybe at the deadline?

Josh Smith would be one of my top picks.. but i'd also take a gamble on Derrick Williams....
but Drummond and Lamb are perfect picks (Rivers as a possibility...)
