The human mind tricks itself into believing what it needs to at the end of the day for the purpose of self preservation. It is a survival instinct. When you've developed a routine and are in a comfort zone it is very hard to be uprooted from that place - and why it is pointless for strangers to speculate on the personal lives of others. Determining whether the wife had sex with the other guy isn't going to solve anything for someone who feels the need to camp out with butcher knives when things don't go his way - it's best to sweep it under the rug and make the best of this situation by moving past it. The truth is not for everyone.

These kinds of situations always remind me of what Marlow tells Kurtz's fiancee at the end of Heart of Darkness.

    Repped!

Just to add to it... The OP shouldn't get upset with what people post on here. Although he was looking to vent on here, we all know people are going to make their wise cracks. It's the internet and I have yet to see a thread like this not have negative feedback/responses.

The most important thing is your wife is ok. I can see where others might believe she cheated. Does that make them stupid or uneducated like Moe said? No, but some don't have to be a jerk about it. Regardless, it's your life and I hope that she didn't and I also hope you two can move pass any issues that may come.

even if the battery of the phone you're calling is dead, a ring will still be heard by the caller

You are obviously right, but I think the OP understands that people are now curious, after the initial post and the "developing story". It is understandable if he just wants to forget about that night and does not want to discuss it any further.

There is bad judgement, then there is believing in magic. In this thread we obey the laws of thermodynamics.

when you call someone whose cell phone is off, what does it say?

I remember calling my t-mobile phone while it's off/no battery from my home phone but I still hear it ringing a couple of times then going to voice mail

When my Sprint phone is powered off or out of juice, it goes straight to voice mail. The same with my son's old AT&T phone and his new Verizon phone.

I thought you meant the phone would physically ring. I couldn't tell you about hearing the ringing when you're calling someone else. My guess is if the cell tower realizes that the phone is off network it doesn't and if it still thinks it is there it does.

Why do you keep trying to convince this guy that his wife is lying to him? Pure dickishness.
