You'll be alright... just watch for adverse side affects and try to study your emotions. You may end up growing out of this experience and come to understand emotions better than before. Bi-polarism isn't something to be ashamed of, because many famous people have over come it. It's not the end of the world by any means. Hope things go well.
"Bipolar" is the new ADHD. If you have vaguely relevant symptoms that could be classified in a number of different categories, bipolar is a nice default box for the doctor to dump you in. It's so much cooler than just being a plain old fashioned vanilla depressive. And there are extra-expensive category specific medications that the drug reps really love to push. If there is such a thing as a "hip" mental disorder, bipolar is it.
A lot of members on Cfans are undiagonised bi-polars. Glad you got diagnosed and proper medication for it.
Bipolar is the artist's/hipster's disorder. But I'm over bipolar, I'm so hip I'm bringing vanilla depression back into style. Don't call it a comeback.
Bipolar thread is _____? Moes resurrects a year-old thread, then signs it "GGL." Giggles? Good game loser? Moes, you've made it your life's mission to make strangers laugh on the internets. Of all the things that could be wrong with you, manic depression isn't that big a deal. Sure, a century ago, you would have ended up cutting off your ear and emailing it to some poor Clutchfan after a particularly vicious loss. Now, you take a few pills and everything's normal. No biggie. True that. This unipolar ---- is depressing. Manic depressives wind up with all the cool stories. The best depressives can say is that their checking accounts end up balanced at the end of the month; that's no way to live.
being bi-polar, just from having read the link from moe's post, doesn't seem that bad. it's like "mood swings". isn't everyone like this? i mean, if something pisses me off, i'm in a bad mood. if i'm tired, i might be a little irritated. if i'm feeling good, i might be feeling a bit energetic.
I don't wish to take pills and feed the corporate machine that wants to make me think I'm a defective human being. I just. I just... I just.. . .. . Ben Harper goes hard. I like his new stuff alot, he's been working on his slide guitar skills alot, and his band is bad....
It's nothing like this. Nothing. No one says you're a defective human being. If you had a heart condition, you wouldn't try to walk that ---- off. Lithium is relatively cheap. Look at it this way: unmedicated, assuming it's an accurate diagnosis and depending on severity, odds are you'll wind up ----ing over most of your relationships. Keeping a job/educational path will prove burdensome. The odds that you'll try and/or commit suicide are ridiculously higher than the national average. Before treatments came into being, your standard of living was ----. With medication (again, relatively cheap), you can choose not to go that route, if you decide to, or if you feel you're in danger of doing so. Manic depression treatments aren't horse tranquilizers; they're not putting you down. Unless you're straight edge, I don't buy that "pharmaceuticals are going to rob me of myself" notion. If you drink the occasional beer, take the occasional puff on the weekends, you recognize that drugs have an important part in regulating mood. Why turn your back on that just because it's a guy in a suit and tie selling you the product (with all the statistical data to back up its efficacy), rather than some dude in Rastafari dreadlocks? [Side note: I quoted the "I just want to dance" my freshman year of college in class introductions, and spent the rest of the semester slinking away from it. No one appreciated Linklater at the time.]
Picture being stuck on a freeway in traffic after getting 2 hours of sleep for the 3rd night in a row. Somebody calls you on the phone and you happily amuse them for a while and they'd never know that you're contemplating how hilarious it would be if you just rammed your car into the jackass in front of you as hard as possible at 90 MPH just because he had a Bush/Cheney 04 sticker on his window. Then a few hours later you're just wasted as all hell, happily typing up ridiculous posts on the internet and making your friends laugh and think that nothing is wrong with your life, you're just a little eccentric that's all. You're a nice guy though.
i think the only problem with medications are often misused or abused. if someone has anxiety problems and are prescribed xanax and valium, it depends on the person, but they might be more inclined to overtake once their body builds tolerance to the drug. once they are misusing, they become a shell of themselves. a zombie if you will. the reason i know is because someone close has gone through this. i think feeling anxiety, feeling depressed, feeling happy, mood swings are very normal human behavior. if you're suicidal, or anything extreme to that extend, medical help is necessary. prescription drugs are a multi-billion industry, and as a business, it must sell it's products to the market one way or the other. i'm have a cynical point of view when it comes to drugs. not the stuff we smoke though.
