So I'm in California this weekend and finally tried In-N-Out Burger...

I don't think Whataburger is even close to the best burger I've ever had, I just find it somewhat--on average--better than In-n-Out. The fries are another matter, however, and to me, french fries are a big part of the burger experience. Whataburger fries are slightly above average while In-n-out fries are just crap. In-n-out fries might very well be cut fresh from something resembling a potato, and Whataburger fries might be frozen, but at least Whatabuger fries remotely follow the proper way to make a French fry--which is a two step process where the fries are cooked once to cook them through and through and then another time at a higher temperature to crisp the outside. In-n-out defies that commonly accepted practice to "tout" their "freshness" and ends up making a french fry that tastes like the absolute freshest cardboard known to man.

It always pains me to respond in these threads because we're discussing the merits of fast food. Both Whataburger and In-n-Out are LIGHT YEARS AHEAD of places like McDondalds and Burger Kind, yet a decent burger and fries from a decent restaurant are light years ahead of Whataburger and In-n-out. I listen to these responses and I think you people are morons for arguing the merits of these two fast food standouts (which means they are only marginal food establishments), but then I find myself responding and realize that I'm just as big of a moron.

Please though.....keep posting these threads. Please continue to argue the merits of ****ing American fast food burgers. It verifies the fact that I knew all along---this world is full of ****ing morons, and even though I have to admit that I am one too.......I can still--in some strange way--feel superior to the rest of you morons.

Uh, Five Guys? At the same time?

I mean, if you're gonna go that route (not that there's anything wrong with that), shouldn't you take baby steps, and start with just one?

I feel the same way (except the "morons" and insults)

Whataburger is not something I consider something to be thought about (for food quality etc) These are the lowest of the low. Fast food burgers are garbage compared to Steakhouse or even better home made.

Go to your butcher, buy some round, get him to grind it for you then go home and grill it. MUCH BETTER than the pre ground mixture of miscellaneous stuff.

Try one of those "6 dollar" burgers from Carl's Jr. I wonder what you'll think of it compared to Whataburger.

There was a place called "Cliff's" in Houston that I remember having pretty good burgers.

Yes, you know, threads about bowel movements are so much better. In fact, you could argue that most of the threads in the Hangout are pointless drivel. It's entertainment. Lighten the hell up.

In & Out is the best fast food burger hands down... There's an In & Out imitation in Stafford called Tornado Burger - you can give that a try - it's fairly cheap and they have the option of a "spicy" patty.

We went to LA late last year and neither of us thought that In and Out Burger lived up to all the hype it gets. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as great as everyone said it was.

I'm a minute drive from an In-n-Out burger. Its a solid burger but unobjectively the fanaticism and devotion to it drives me mad. To where I purposely and shamelessly put Whataburger over it.

Whataburger shakes most definitely FTW but an In-n-Out burger shake is darn good too, another area it rivals Whataburger...

Del Taco is bad stuff from its food to its drab look. It is though THE definitive choice of after hours "drunk food" :D Over Taco Bell and any other late night drive thru. I think their tortillas and taco shells are specifically made to go with beer.

So with McDonald's, Jack in the Box and In-n-Out about equal distance, if I had to choose one admittedly it'd be In-n-Out. Otherwise I'm driving up the road and picking up one of Carl's Jr's 6 dollar burgers.

The thing that I like the most from In & Out is their fries. That's the thing that stands out to me more than thier burgers. They have the best fries ever.

This thread is kinda skewed. You live in Cali and you think Whataburger is better than In n out... OP I assume lives in Texas and he thinks IN n Out is better than Whataburger.

I wonder what the verdict would be if both of you guys lived in the same place that had neither In n Out or Whataburger and you guys tried each for the first time.

As for me I was in California last week as well I'm from Portland where there is no IN n Out so when I landed in Cali the first thing I did was hit up the IN n Out. It was only like the 3rd time ever I had it... it was good but some people seriously act like its the best thing ever. It's good but I think it's overrated... I believe it's more nostalgia and reputation. Also their fries are Kind of weak. Actually really weak.... I didn't like them. My favorite is still FATBURGER and that's only cause I had that once in Vegas at like 4 in the morning after heavily drinking so my judgment on that is probably skewed as well.
