LOL - I'm telling the truth

Sorry to see that you're taking out your frustrations of losing this election on me. I'll be the bigger man here.

    And...your point is?

There are plenty of people who opposed Prop. 2 who wouldn't be classified by anyone who knows them as 'liberal'.

Big Texas just surrendered to fear. I'm glad that 20 years from now I won't have to explain to my grandchildren that I voted for discrimination against a minority. Like the presidential election in '04, this was an election about fear. I was disgusted then, I'm disgusted now, and I'm ashamed of my state. Someday, the worm will turn, and many of you will wonder what you were thinking then and now.

    Pretty sad, really.

    Keep D&D Civil.

Better said, this board is NOT wacko rightwing nut conservative. And we all know that there is such a thin line between that and being extremely liberal.

On BTW, big Republican losses in VA, NJ, and CA. link

Sorry, took me awhile to get back to a computer.

    My thoughts-
I may not have voted if I had not been on the BBS
I do not think voting is a way of furthering my faith (I'm not big on politics)
I don't remember ever preaching against homosexuality (I keep copies of every sermon also)
I am more likely to preach against hypocrisy in the church (and I have several sermons to prove it)

Let me end with a true story- A pastor was told about a TV show that was horrible, the storyline of the made for TV movie told about two teenage boys who had raped a young girl with a broom stick. A person in his church was telling him how terrible the show was and was saying it shouldn't have been aired on primetime TV. A big fuss was being made about how a Christian can't watch some of the filthy TV shows. The pastor was repulsed by what he was told about that movie but remarked that TV shows really don't concern him because he doesn't even own a TV. He said it was none of his business what other people watched.
The very same day his 12 year old daughter was raped. When the rape case went to trial the two teenage boys who were found guilty admitted they copied what they had seen on that made for TV movie.
I don't know if not being involved means it doesn't affect you.

It is if you consider people like tex and trader mainstream. However, fortunately in the context of national U.S. politics they are extreme fringe right wingers. From that perspective anything other than mindless cheerleading of Bush, war, and tax cuts looks like commie propaganda.

Well. I'm sure legislating bigotry against gays will make it all better.

Congratulations. I'm sure this will really help you "reach out" to the gay community.

I vote, normally. I wasn't even aware of prop 2 prior to yesterday (that's what I should have said). Honest, I don't watch much TV unless it's a Rocket game. Don't read the paper unless it is a Rocket article posted in the GARM. Been very busy and might not have voted, when I got home I found out about all we were voting on in Brazoria County were the propositions.

My wife asked me if I was going to vote when I got home and she had some information on all the propositions. She drove and I read the info on the way to vote.

None of the prop's here in Texas moved me very much, even #2.

I voted as is my civic duty.

    Self-immolation. Sad, really.

Surley (Shirley) this can't be constitutional under "equal protection".
Either we give the legal benefits of marrige to everyone or to no one.

Even with their new christian right agenda the justices should be able to just read the black and white.

Congratulations???? OK - but I feel no victory this morning.
Prop 2 could have gone either way as far as I am concerned. I don't believe homosexuality it right moral behavior. As far as being a bigot, I don't know how to answer that.

When it comes to reaching out I never consider targeting a group or class. I never felt praying for Aids patients (who were gay) in hospitals was different than praying with a co-worker who is having family problems. People are people. Problems are problems and true compassion has a purer motive than targeting a particular class. I don't want to prejudice myself if possible when it comes to compassion on either side of an issue.

Most in the gay community may not want any help or preaching from me. I have 'reached out' as you put it to homosexuals many times. But I am pretty indiscriminate when it comes to that. I try to give liers, theives, murderers, adulterers, and hypocrites equal attention when it comes to friendliness, forgiveness and faith. I have been all of the above and don't feel confident in my own 'goodness' at all. Sorry you are depressed. I know the feeling.

If you don't like gay marriage, don't have one.

The covenant is theology, yes. Using the old/new covenant as an excuse to believe/disbelieve whatever you want - that's an excuse.

And I've read it plenty of times already.
