Last week I got back from India. When going there, I went from Houston to London to Dubai to Cochin (place in S. India) and at London they had these weird "random checks" on all us brown people. Even if the buzz thing didnt go off they'd search all your stuff anyways. Only if you were brown of course. That doesnt mean their racist or nothing like that. Its kind of understandable especially when you're going to Dubai with all that's happened. Its kinda too bad though and you feel kinda weird.
I've been there for the buffet once, and it completely blows. Horrible Indian food. If you want real Indian/Pakistani food in Houston go to Royal Restaurant on Bissonet. Another one I reccomend is London Sizzler right next to Colorado on Hillcroft and 59.
What do they have? Do they have curry chicken or masala chicken? I am a besmeti rice and curry/masala chicken man
In regards to this, I understand where you are coming from. I will accept the fact that my language did come across as being too strong in previous posts. But there is one little detail you left out...even in the situation you provided me. Feeling "out of place" is one thing entirely different from getting "stared" at. Let's not beat around the bush here...we all know what getting "the look" means. We've all seen it many times. We've probably even had it happen to us. You can even find examples of this in even schools i.e... the guy who sported the "gothic" fashions and trench coats, especially after Columbine, who keeps receiving "the looks" from his classmates. And these aren’t exactly looks of attraction either. Or how about the Rocket fan sporting his T-Mac jersey in American Airlines Center receiving "cold stares" by all the Mav fans in attendance. How would you think these people would call the situation? This is why discrimination isn’t related to just race alone. Because the above situations are clear cases of discrimination...i.e. being hated upon because your ideals are different from the masses. Now the same thing I just illustrated above is happening to drapg in South Carolina. But in drapg's case, he is receiving the stares most likey due to the fact that he's Indian. This is why I said what I said. I call it like I see it...
Maybe if you like that North Indian crap...If you want to try real Indian food, go to Pavani, Madras Pavillion, Mayuri(My pick for best Indian food in Houston), etc...
Umm yuck... Definately Royal has some gooood Kabob Rolls. My personal Favorite has gots to be the Bombay Biryani at Kings Chicken :fainnnnt:
I totally agree that discrimination isn't related to race alone. Anytime a person sticks out from the majority in any given situation or demographic, the opportunity for discrimination exists. That's just a reality. And we seem to agree on that. My problem with your previous posts was some of the language you used. Without knowing anything about them, and based solely on a 'stare', you practically indicted them as 'racist-redneck-hicks'. That's what I didn't agree with. And I'm more sensitive about that than I used to be because I find it undercuts my argument against real discrimination if I were to be so flippant when using those very derisive terms. Look, many times we can say things at a white person's expense, because, at the end of the day, who are they gonna call? LULAC? The NAACP? I don't think white southerners that we typically make fun of with impugnity have a recognized, valid interest group to champion any discrimination felt against them [insert klan joke here]. I believe we can many times be counter-productive by labeling people so quickly. And you, to your credit, addressed that by saying the language was probably too strong. Now, if such knee-jerk labeling is - as you put it - 'calling it like (you) see it', then I expect you to use the same language in future posts when anybody of any race happens to mention getting 'stared' at by the majority in a given situation. Whether it be a white person at a predominately black college or a black person at a restaurant down in the Rio Grande Valley. I've learned that no matter how easy it is to pile on a certain demographic, it is much more cogent and credible to apply my reactions consistently. So as long as you're willing to do that, then at least you're intellectually honest. If not, then I'd probably re-think my 'calling it like I see it' comment.
Err... wrong... N. India food is all vegetables and little meat. Not that there's nothing wrong with that. its because more vegetarians live up north. The best place for India food is Madras Pavillion and Bombay Palace!! yumm..
South Indian is vegetarian ... North Indian is where you get all the tikkas, the biryanis, the jalfreezis etc. South is the dosa, vada, sambar etc.
Big whoop, so have I. Just because you're pulled over doesn't mean there is racism at work. That's an easy crutch that you can fall back on, though.
