Telfair had his gun hidden in a pillowcover on the team plane, and was caught by immigration when crossing the US-Canada border.

    That's somewhat comparable.

how about we all do a little experiment and take 3 guns to their workplace tomorrow, make sure your colleagues see them, perhaps leave them on the desk of a co-worker with a note asking them to shoot you in your bad knee and see what happens???

    report back tomorrow please

If you're still allowed to work, and only fired/suspended when you poke fun at it with your colleagues, then it would be a similar situation.

The NBA disgusts me more and more with each passing day.

How about you commit vehicle manslaughter, carry 3 loaded weapons while traveling on a motorcycle, get accused of rape. Might those scenarios get you fired?

Stop comparing the NBA to deskjobs. You and I are easily replaceable, these guys aren't.

NBA jobs aren't comparable to regular jobs. Stephen Jackson shot up outside a strip club. There are many many many cases of crimes and charges that went public, and if it happened with people in most other jobs, they'd get fired.

So, unless Stern wants to make an example of Arenas, then he'll probably just get suspended for a while following historical precedent, and assuming that there are no felony charges against him. Felony charges change everything.

The only reason Arenas got suspended now (and not later) is because he has continued to act as the class clown and not take the situation seriously.

That photo is hilarious btw, considering the circumstances, and the outcome of him basically throwing away at least half-a-million for that joke.

Stern takes everything too personally. I still remember how it is against Stern's law to question the officiating of the games in front of him.

this is kind of a knee jerk thread because the investigation is still ongoing.

based on the info in the 6 page thread about the suspension, I am thinking that Javaris isn't out of the water in any sense.

that is, if the allegations are true, Crittenton might be in worse trouble than Arenas...

i hope the OP isn't angry at me for thinking so.

that's what gets me. if this is worthy of a suspension, it should've been done after it came to light, not after stern got his feelings hurt at a joke. i'm coming back around with my love for the nba, but it won't ever be fully back until stern is gone.

take out the whole "Stern has it in for the entire league outside of Boston, LA, and NYC" conspiracy and he has done fine things to improve the image of the NBA.

Stern being stern on a gun related matter in the nation's capital is about the only way he can play this hand right now.

Like I said before, I think Stern gave Arenas the benefit of the doubt and wanted to pass judgment based on the conclusion of the criminal investigation.

The breaking point? Stern probably didn't appreciate this 'guns blazing' picture in every media outlet while Arenas was wearing an NBA uniform on an NBA court. I'm guessing Arenas wouldn't have been suspended if he did this in a mall, for example.

i'm sure he didn't which was why he was suspended. the words by the commish indicate someone who's taking this personally. i don't see how he was fit to take the court before the game, but making a joke that everyone around him laughed at all of the sudden makes him unfit.

i don't have a problem with the suspension, just the timing of it. stern thinks he's above the sport and he's thought this for a long time. he needs to go last decade.

People are too quick to say this is a personal thing for Stern. That photo of Arenas is an embarassment for the league. He's hurting the marketing of the league. And, Stern knows as well as everybody else that we can count on Arenas to continue to try to make a joke out of it; that's his MO. So, an immediate suspension will get him away from the arena cameras and might sober Arenas' approach to the PR crisis -- both of which will reduce the likelihood that Arenas will embarass the league again.

Crittenton has had the good sense to keep his mouth shut, it seems. However, I expect he will end up getting the worst of it, from the law and the league.

EDIT: Also, Crittenton is injured. I don't think he can serve a suspension until he is healthy enough to play. Thus, there's no point doling out a suspension for him before the investigation is over. If he was cleared to play tomorrow, he'd probably get one.

That's my point, put more succinctly.

The big picture story in Arenas' life right now is not him vs Stern. It's him vs the Washington D.C. district attorney. I really think this was Arenas still being a goofball and not getting the gravity of the situation. As such the D.A. was probably the most riled up by this display, not Stern.

I would go with this assessment, considering the situation occured after the 2005 CBA...

however the Massachusetts authorities chose not to charge Telfair, and subsequently the League fined him...

he got a three game suspension for having a firearm in his vehicle in '07
