Hail To The Thief is seen as one of their weaker albums but if you give it a listen again anytime soon it may surprise you. When I first bought it I was dissapointed because it came after Kid A and OK Computer which were really really good.. anyway it's still a great album I listened to it about 2 months ago and was like man this isn't as bad as I once thought. :)

Don't get me wrong, I do like it just not as much as the others. Where I End and Sail to the Moon are two I really enjoy. I can't remember the last two track names, but they're good too.

Lateralus was my favorite song the summer before my senior year of high school. I ran sprints and multiple miles every night that summer to get my cardio up for basketball season. I put Lateralus as the last track on the CD I listened to during those runs. Helped me to push through that last mile so many times.

I think the thing that these three bands all have in common for me is that I can just close my eyes during their songs and really feel the emotion coming from them.

Okay... lemme tell you about nine inch nails....

You might as well drop them (him) off your list. It's not music that's conducive to a mix tape. It's much, much bigger than that.

Yeah, nin had a few hit singles with Head Like a Hole and Down In It, and a few individual songs since then (like Closer), but nin music is a much bigger experience.

Whatcha wanna do is put in The Downward Spiral, push play, and let the entire disk play. It's one of those. The disk before that (Broken) was excellent, too. And nin (Trent Reznor, really) has done other great misc. songs for soundtracks (Perfect Drug and other stuff from Lost Highway soundtrack) and singles (Sin singles) and some fantastic live stuff that can only be gotten from bootlegs...

It's great stuff, but it's more of a following than just a few singles.

nin is one of my top five favorite bands of all time.

And, in my personal opinion, Tool and Radiohead aren't even in the same realm as nin.

I generally find it irritating to discuss music with someone who just downloads the popular singles from a certain album and doesn't bother listening to the rest of the album.

I agree with you for the most part, but there are bands out there that only have one or two good songs.

Radiohead is not one of them. Each album has a different feel to it and its own identity.

I have to agree with some of what's being said. All three bands are really really good, and trying to pick songs based on advice or popularity is going to make you miss something that would have spoken to you.

Get the albums, for all three bands.

I like NIN, but most of what the public consumes is not the stuff I dig from them/him. Closer is not NIN at their best, IMO. Personally, for NIN, I'd go with the Fragile, and Broken EP, then go from there as you desire more.

Radiohead, pick one. They're all great, though I'd have to say don't start with Hail to the Thief. Yes, it's good, but it won't leave you wanting more as readily as the others. Also, while Pablo Honey is a good album, they hadn't figured out how good they could be yet on that one. Ok Computer, In Rainbows (how good is THAT one?) Bends, Amnesiac, whatever... they're all good and whichever one you get, you'll want another one quickly.

Tool is just awesome. Maynard knows what sounds good, and the edge is undeniable. Lyrics a seriously good as well. It's about the dynamic with them, not just being loud. Great stuff. Aenema is where I'd start there, but again, picking songs won't do. Get the albums. If you're like me, you'll start with one, wonder why it took you so long to get it, then when you've burned laser grooves into the disc, you'll get another one and do it all over again.

Muse is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite bands, I would add "Hysteria" and "Thoughts of a Dying Athiest" to your list.

As for Tool, I dig all of their albums a lot, Aenima is my favorite album and my favorite song is most definitely 46 and 2, but Prison Sex comes close. Lateralus is an amazing musical feat if you realize the arrangement of the entire album is based on a certain mathematical process called the Fibonacci sequence.

And for whoever suggested The Mars Volta, you gotta listen to At the Drive in first to really get into the mind of Cedric Bixler-Zavala.

Ok Computer is the greatest rock album of all time, well best 90s rock album for sure The Bends is great also. Hail to the Thief is not as great as those two but good non the less.

I would think you find it irritating to discuss music with anyone who hasn't spent 5 years immersing themselves in a pseudo-Bohemian culture and now takes it upon themselves to spend 18 hours a day at an underground coffee shop with a head covered in other dreadlocks or a beret and a mind filled with Nietzsche or Leary. Steadily waiting for those conformist fools to show up so you can impress them with just how much more quirky and unique you are than they could ever hope to possibly be.

    LMAO!

I met a girl a long time ago who was like this. I didn't listen to Radiohead a lot then and she gave me a hard time about it. Then I went and jumped into their new album at the time which was Amnesiac. I could not see what people got from it. I just didn't get it and figured I didn't like them.

Later I went ahead and checked out Ok Computer and loved it. After that I listened to other albums and eventually came to appreciate Amnesiac. I'm glad I got into them, but I jumped into the wrong album to start.

Anyway those folks you mention reminded me of that and they are annoying.

NIN - "A Warm Place" is a great song to just relax to. Very calming, yet slightly eerie.

NIN - Somewhat Damaged. A calm relaxing song to doze off to.

Starph*ckers. A nice valentine day song for your loved one.

Now off to bearshare and limewire to build up my Muse catalog...

(I've posted it before) But I think you are jealous of me and my art rock friends listening to art rock bands you have never heard of.

But yea, do you want to step out?

I've already told my friends that I want A Warm Place played at my funeral. That and "Leaving Hope", which is on the "Still" EP.
