Good God I graduated 3 years ago and our SAT scores looked nothing like that. But I'd say thats a pretty decent score. I got a 1020 on the old scale in the 9th grade, never took it again and got into every school I applied to.
I am assuming that you could get a 2400 PLUS whatever they give you for essay credit so 1900 would equate to about 1250 or so back in the 1600 days. Certainly a respectable score.
A 1900 is pretty respectable. The first time I took it last fall I got a 1870. I could have taken it again to improve, but I did well enough to get accepted many decent colleges. I also didn't take any prep classes or anything. I think what the colleges look for the most is class rank, extracurriculars, and community service.
i think its now 3 subsets 800 reading (verbal), 800 math and 800 writing. for those who took it when it was just verbal and math the writing they added on is just the SAT 2 writing test. if i add my sat 2 writing to my original sat score i wind up with 2140 i dont know what is by today standards like if you need at least 2200 to think about applying to harvard etc... but yeah its tougher each year to get in
I feel so sorry for everyone who has to take the new SAT. I have proctored the SAT six times -- 5 on the old format, and once on the new. The old format was long, but it was bearable. The new format is atrocious. It lasts forever . . . I felt so sorry for all the students taking it, because no one should have to take a test that long unless it's the bar exam or something. The CISSP was six hours, but you could get up and walk around when you felt like it. The new SAT is just brutal.
I think somewhere around 1997 or something they announced that they made the scoring easier so more people would get 1600s. Hey, dont make the kids smarter, just make the tests easier.
I never took the SAT with the writing portion...on the old scale I got a 1450. Got reeeee-jected by a couple out-of-states I applied to. Got accepted by UT though (cause they were forced to accept me under GWB's laws, I suppose). I chose Baylor, failed a couple classes my freshman year and had to transfer because I would have lost my scholarship. Now I'm at McLennan Community College and I'm seriously wishing I had done my freshman and sophomore years in CC. It gets you into the swing of things as far as college life goes and saves a ****load of money for basically the same courses. Man I can't wait to transfer to UH this fall!
Which was a 900 on the older scoring system. I have no idea what my SAT score would translate to these days.
they changed the test january 2005. now theres 3 sections, verbal, math and writing. they dropped analogies from the verbal, made math harder, and basically took the sat II writing and added it to the sat I. so the test is 2400, each section worth 800. 2000+ is a good score, 2100+ is really good.
