I like the vintage-ness of the Lollars. I almost have to go with a hum cancelling pickup of some kind to keep me happy when I play live. I'm a pedal pusher and also sometimes switch in to high gain mode every once in a while. I like the price on those Lollars. Certainly worth checking out if (when) I build a more conventional axe.
My friend Bill worked on a lot of EJ's amplifiers and I would have a knack for hanging out when EJ came by. There were a couple of other connections like a compillation that I recorded and mastered for a local radio station. EJ had a tune on there - but the mastering for his track was by Bernie Grundman so i just had to place his properly on the CD. But this led to dropping off and pickup of the master at his agent's house. Beyond that he was just a cool dude to me. He would put me on the guest list when he was playing at Antone's and once asked me if I would be interested in going on a tour of the west coast as his monitor guy. I was married at the time and didn't pursue it. Never met Mr. Lifeson... ;~)
