I used to speed all the time, thinking I was invisible since I had no previous tickets. Then, in one year I got like 3 tickets, they all mounted together at the same time, I felt like I had a target on my truck. Since then, I'm always aware of my speed, I might exceed it 5mph, thats it tho.

If you've got busted for speeding multiple times AND for rear ending someone, that tells me you are probably a reckless driver or, at the least, someone who drives too aggressively. You might want to re-evaluate your driving while you are trying to "get out" of a ticket you clearly deserved.

I admit I speed at times - who doesn't? - but if you are getting busted this often and you rear ended someone meaning you were too close to them, the problem is the stupid Pasadena police or the cost of your tickets - it's your driving.

I've gotten speeding tickets before and never tried to weasel my way out of them, because I deserved them.

If you did the crime, you should pay the fine.

The rear ended thing could have been avoided. The lady slammed her breaks in the rain plus i barely bumped her but she had to make a bid deal out of it. I'm not a reckless driver if I was I'd probably be dead right. I do admit I do get impatient driving slow and after a long day at work I just want to get home. All in all thanks for the advice I do watch my speed and I'm always aware of the same cop that stopped. He hadn't been there for like a month and I chose the wrong day to not look out for him.

Have to also agree with those talking about slowing down ...

If you're getting tickets that frequently then you definitely need to reevaluate your driving habits. For one, speeding reduces your gas mileage -- more significantly than you think. Moderate driving and staying below the speed limit helps to keep your car running smoother longer, and reduces frequency and cost of car maintenance such as oil changes, brake service etc. It also obviously reduces the chances of you getting into accidents like rear-ending another person, or paying the price for someone else's stupidity. Driving aggressively costs you in more ways than you realize. Anyone can change their driving habits -- you just have to admit that you need to change. It's well worth it.

The last ticket I got was only my third ever in well over 9 years of driving, and it happened pretty much because I was a little absent-minded and wasn't quite paying attention to my driving. I rarely get ticketed because I at least try to be careful about the way I drive.

No offense dude, but stop speeding. Multiple tickets in a short span and hitting someone is a clear sign that you need to change your driving patterns. Keep yourself and everyone else safe....

It's not like I speed every single time I drive. You guys are making it sound like that. I sped up so that I could pass up the other guy and switch lanes. Yea I could have slowed down and waited for 3 cars to pass me up but didn't. Oh well. The other 2 speeding tickets are without a doubt stupid tickets because I was being reckless not so much this instance. And the ticket where I rear ended the lady was just nonsense. I found that out about a month ago when I get a call from my insurance where she filed an injury report from the accident.....a year later. That really ticked me off.

I heard Friendswood is a bad little town too, it's near Webster and Pasadena. I hear it's actually worse than all of the ones in that area.

Yea. Friendswood, Pasadena, and Pearland. I've heard nothing but negative things about them. By that I mean friends being ticketed for being 3-5mph over the limit.

I usually go about 10 over the posted speed limit when I drive. The freeway is the exception because I don't see a reason to go any faster than 70.

So basically, I speed every time I drive, yet I only get a ticket about once every 2 years. You say you've got 4 in just over a year - yet you don't speed every single time you drive. That dog don't hunt.

Here's a thought - why don't you get up to the speed limit, then set your cruise control. Sounds simple, but you would be surprised how much of a difference it makes. You naturally relax more when you're on cruise control, so you won't feel the need to drive like a bat out of hell.

I starting doing this while driving through Bellaire (where they pull you over for going 31 in a 30...) and now I try to do it all the time.

You would be suprised how much less stressful it is driving on cruise control. It's not just for long trips.

Not to pile on but a rear end is an automatic guilty...even if the person in front slammed on their brakes. Thing is, you're too close if you cannot stop without rear ending her.

if someone actually did the math for time saved by speeding..its not worth it.

i used to go 10mph over the posted limit. now i have cut it down to 5. also never speed in a subdivision and school zone. those are guaranteed tickets.

risk of getting a ticket vs. time saved...didnt seem worth it to me.

lets say 140 miles. posted limit is 70. so at speed limit it takes 2 hours. i go 5 over...i save about 8 mins. if i go 10 over, i save another 8 mins but the chances of me getting a ticket is greatly increased. so for 140 miles i would have to sit there and worry about cops..or forget about the 8 mins..and relax. ;)

and yes i have an escort 8500 radar.

oh wow I was gonna start a thread about this and bam, there's one already..

so I'm driving on Highway 6 to Bryan, and 20 miles before college station, a state patrol stops me.. I was going 90 on 70 apparently, and I received my first ticket ever! .. freaking Navasota cops, a bunch of people warned me, but I'm just too big a dumb ass to slow down..

can you experienced guys tell me about the defensive driving thing? does it wipe the ticket off of my record? here's the way I understand it: I send in the "reply paper" with $110, then I take the course within 3 months, and it's all good? would my insurance go up? I'm still on my parents' insurance, so it frickin sucks..

    PLEASE HELP! :(

Defensive driving would negate the ticket. Another ticket over the next year means insurance might go up. Then you face your parent's wrath. Speeding isn't worth it...

again.. defensive driving negates the ticket. Another ticket over the next year means you can do deferred adjudication...adhere to the terms of it (usually incl. def. driving again) and pay extra, and insurance still won't go up.

Really? Wow, I was always told by the defensive driving folks that you only get one shot a year. New to me.

if you ever get a 2nd ticket in a year in Texas, ask the court about deferred adjudication.. every court has different terms. But they usually involve taking def. driving again, paying some extra money to them, and not getting a ticket for somewhere btwn 2 weeks and 12 months (either in their county/city or in the entire state..again court-dependent). Satisfy that stuff and it's another one off your record..

Deferred adjudication does not include defensive driving. All it is is basically a way to pay the fine without it going on your record. You pony up the cash, be on your good behavior for the probationary period (in Harris county it's 3 months), and then the case is dismissed with prejudice (legalese for absolutely not guilty and expunged from your public record).

ima, that's exactly what I do on some streets in Austin, where the motorcycle cops seem to love the locations and hangout all the time, the posted speed limits are too low (like on Davis Lane in Southwest Austin... a divided boulevard with limited access, should be 40, started at 30, and now they have it at 35mph. I see people getting written up all the time there, and almost all of them are for doing 40 or so in a 35), and they love to wait for you. I put my cruise control on, even if I have to put my car or van in a lower gear to do it, and relax. I'd advise everyone to consider that where the limit is too low and you have a hard time slowing down. It's worth it if the traffic allows doing that.
