We've been working with this company for a few years now, and nary any issues with them. We send them business. They pay us. All is fine. 2 months ago things started to change. New agents weren't getting processed and, worse, than that, we weren't getting paid, even though we knew the funds were in. 3 weeks in, I call after my other guys aren't getting anywhere. When thousands of dollars aren't getting paid out, it's not a good look, and they kept apologizing and sending it along to the next superior who could "get to the bottom of it." And then there was Chad... After two hours of getting transferred to person after person Chad answers the phone, completely oblivious to what I've been dealing with for two hours after not getting answers for two weeks. When he asks for my name and admits he doesn't know why I'm calling in I say "You've gotta be ****ing kidding me..." Chad, being a Chad, immediately yells at me, like any outraged millennial "you don't curse at me ever!" Well, that led to the obligatory "F you you F-ing f*****." And I hung up, regained my composure, and called back in to figure it out. The next week, they say I've been terminated for using a misogynistic word... Now a company can do that; although I have 100+ agents under me and they now have to be transferred to my partner, but that was over a month ago. The mistake was completely on them switching servers and not knowing what the hell they were doing. In the meantime, we have lawyers looking into them. They still owe us $30k and they will eventually pay, but I think them terminated me is making the payments come to us as slowly as possible. Not looking for advice. Just venting. Owning a business can be interesting.
You obviously don't know the Generation ages... 1945-1964 - Boomers 1965-1979 - Gen X 1980 - 1995 - Millennials 1995 - 2010 - Gen Z
Doesn't work that way in my biz, but Chad & crew put a wedgie. That stated, in the long run, it only hurts them. They pay us to recommend them. We wont be doing that anytime soon. In the short term? Yeah, they're trying to figure out reasons not to pay us which is illegal. Luckily I have one of the best Lawyers in my back pocket should we need him, but all of the other people, Amerilife primarily, are acknowledging they were in the wrong. I've been doing this 18 years and I know when a company bit off more than they can chew. I see them in the last throes before a massive reworking, which will make them a shell of themself. It's a shame, but they were a young company & took too big a bite of the apple. But we will still be paid...
I feel your pain. Dealing with feelings vs business sense is really frustrating. I had a million dollar eBay business and got canned because of Millennial mischief and bureaucratic rules I couldn’t appeal. Noting that I paid them $250k+ A year didn’t matter. And I wasn’t even a dick like you, there just weren’t any checks and balances to say, ok, this guy is an obvious exception. I even took it to the eBay president but he’s an even bigger tool. (Since left in disgrace). You getting let go over cursing during a conversation vs cursing at someone is a total chick move too. I’ve lost my temper in the past when talking to women and got the old ‘don’t curse at me!’, which, of course, just set me off more because I’m not cursing at you, b****, I’m cursing while speaking to you, it’s completely different. Anyway, glad you have a backup with your partner and can keep the business/money going, because at the end of the day, barring some moral break, that’s what doing business is about, not feelings.
Ohhhh…. I did. Still, contextually, Fatty being an old man from the 80’s, it wasn’t a slur, right? Old people don’t know what they’re doing, they’re silly like that. See any Trumper.
At least you went down being you. Most Fatty way to get shown the door of all time, short of a drunken grope of the CEOs wife.
Sorry to hear that and hope things work out. I get it that things at work can get tense but it is really really really important to check your emotions at the door and that means controlling your language. I had a situation involving a millennial who went behind my back on something and I called him privately because I didn't want to show him up and told him "Why didn't you come to me a like a man and tell me this directly.." To which he accused me of insulting him on the basis of gender. What made it more ironic was that he was one of those guys who frequently complained about how "woke" society was.
