I get payed about $1500/semester to go to school, but after housing, I end up needing some money. I've got $800 in loans outstanding and should have about $5000 by the time I finish.

Holy crap! I'd only applied for undergrad financial aid, and between my school and the government... I didn't pay much at all.

I just got my semester awards for next fall... and law school aid is terrible! It's not even aid! It's almost all loans.

    4,250 in subsidized loans
    5,000 in unsubsidized loans
800 lousy dollars in scholarship money along with a 700 dollar supplemental tuition TPEG (whatever the hell that is).

And they recommend that I take out another couple thousand in private loans. Per semester! Eeek!

By my calculations, I'll rack up about 60k in debts during the next 3 years... I thought that by going from an expensive private undergraduate school to a public law school, I'd save money. At least the University of Texas is in-state, otherwise I'd be eating at soup kitchens, or something...

    Total undergraduate debt: 10k
    Expected graduate debt: 60k

    This sucks :( .

I know, haven. I was looking at that situation when I was accepted to UT Grad School (Latin American Studies). All loans. Out of state tuition. And that would have been for an amorphous degree with much less guaranteed future earning potential than law school. Hence, I didn't go (but am now looking to go back to grad school, i.e., could be looking at the same thing as far as loans).

I owed $25,000 and my wife $15,000, we paid hers off first and then finished paying mine off last summer. Our notes were a combined $450 or so a month.

Glad to be rid of it.

One word of advice, ALWAYS talk to the people who are managing your loan, never dissappear, the government will guarantee them, and then slap on a 50% penalty.
