IMHO cap relief is going to have to figure in the equation. Taking Turkey would be way to bitter of a pill to swallow. Howard could be gone after next season, but Turk would be around sucking the cap from the organization for years.

    Orlando is mediocre with Howard.

    Houston is mediocre without Howard.

    Big difference.

Plus, Howard is under contract, so a trade could happen whether or not Dwight likes it or not...a long term deal is another story, however.

Acquiring Dwight Howard via trade with Orlando Magic: 6% - 10%

Dwight Howard signing an extension with the Rockets (as currently constructed): Less than 5%.

    Adding viable pieces: 25%

Adding another superstar or quality top 15 player: 50%

I would say we had a much better chance of getting the number one pick last night and even less of a chance of re-signing him if we can pull off a trade. I really hope it happens. We are kind of spoiled to having the best center in the NBA so it makes sense!!!!

I don't understand all of the Dwight Howard non sense. Am I the only one who thinks he acts a lot like Tmac? Do we really wanr to go thru that again. I pray we move up a get some youth and move toward what OK City is doing. This crap of signing someone else's pre Madonna is getting old. Sometimes I think our GM is Jackie Moon and we are the Flint Tropics

I know howard's stock is low right now considering his behavior and injury but he immediately makes us a playoff team. I wouldn't think twice about trading for him. Once we get him the big elephant in the room is whether he will sign the extension. At this point though you have to do something in order to get off the mediocrity treadmill. We don't have the coaching staff to push these mediocre players into a playoff team so our only solution is still the superstar route.

There is a reason why Magic was interested in Shaq as GM, not because he is qualified, but he can bring Dwight in the fold. Magic likely will try to get a coach who played before, unlike Van Gundy who has never played an NBA game. McHale would be a good drawing card for Dwight, but if he can choose his type of coach and work for a man he respects, it is almost a forgone conclusion he stays with Magic.

From Jarrod Rudolph (the guy who's apparently close to Dwight and broke the news Howard was going to opt in):

    Before lottery:
    After lottery:
I'd probably still put L.A. in mix, but what do I know.
Point being I think a lot of y'all are underrating the Rockets chances to trade for Dwight here. Unless Dwight chances his mind on teams he'd sign an extension for, I just don't see a whole lot of competition out there.
Whether or not the Rockets would be successful in keeping Dwight is another question though.

The odds of getting a "happy" DH is just about zero.

IF we get him, it's for only one year/half a season.

Cap related question: can we do a Sign'n Trade with Dragic for Hedo if it means we use other pieces to trade for Howard like Scola and Martin and/or Dalembert?

SMH.... If Howard can give us 5 or 6 years that Mac gave us.... then it is worthwhile because he is the creme de la crop .....
