So far, the Rockets have been much better with Hartenstein at C versus Capela -- Why?

Totally agree, we also need to remind ourselves that not all big men can catch the pass as good as Capela, example Asik, catching the bullet pass is a skill

Yea I get what your saying but Capela has a lot of bad tendencies which get the opponent wide open or easy shots. There’s no way to put it or excuse him. I know switching is part of their scheme but Capela over does it a lot and when it’s not needed a lot.

Capela is actually a dj or Howard 2.0 version. If Dwight had done what we needed him he would have been unstoppable but he wasn’t and he didn’t. Between Capela or Dj I’d take dj any day because he finishes with authority and I’ve never seen a small guard striped or blocked him. Capela most of the time goes soft and even misses alley oops or shots at the rim for it.

Capela is young still and he can improve a bunch more but if he needs to work on those little things. If it wasn’t because of Harden, Capela wouldn’t be able to score like he does. That’s what I said and it is true.

Nah. Capela is not over doing it. Perhaps you think the scheme is over doing it. Opponents target the big all the time so maybe the frequency is confusing you.

Capela is elite at finishing. He goes up hard when he needs to, and he uses flexibility and finesse when he needs to. Sure, he still misuses one or the other some time, but far less than 99% of C's in the league. He's in the top tier of finishing at the rim.

Yes Harden creates most of Capela's points. You know who else could do that for Capela? Kemba, Lowry, Holiday, Simmons, Fox, Rubio, Lebron, Lillard, Conley, Oladipo, Dragic, Paul, etc...

Anyways back to the subject, on defense, Capela is not making mistakes. You just don't seem to like the plan he's executing.

Rolled my eyes when you said Capela isn’t over doing it and that Capela is an elite finisher.
He finishes because the ball is passed right about the basket. He should be scoring more, plus all the focus is on Harden or Paul and Harden.
I’m a rockets fan not a Capela only fan. I don’t over hype what our players do or don’t.

If you really think all those players could do that that’s your opinion but why don’t they then. Harden gets his but he loves to get his big man involved or other players. When he shuts down mentally we see everyone’s game suffer but who’s suffer the most ? Well Capela of course when Harden got injured this season Capela was a shadow barely doing anything. And most of those players had had a big man like Capela but they don’t average as many assists as Harden.

And if you don’t see all the easy layups he misses idk which game you’re watching. And if you don’t get annoyed when Capela switches even when his teammate is pulling him back to stay with his man then idk which team you’ve been watching.

They don't, because they don't have Capela, and they are not Harden.

Frankly your opinion is so divorced from reality I don't even have the patience to wait for you to show any evidence of what you're saying, only to show you what's wrong with it, then you change the subject, and I bring you back, and you then rely on your smell test.

I'm glad the Rockets organization see him as a bargain at $17m, which is what I see too. We lost 5 total games last season with Capela/Paul/Harden, and that would not have happened with any other C. Other fans and GM's are trying to find their Capela while you're out here making things up. Capela is statistically elite at the rim, and you think anyone is going to engage you in that debate? Come on. You might be a Rockets fan, but something is up here.

Reality? Well maybe you live in an alternate reality where Capela is the best center.

To me he is above average, Dj has more athleticism and force. Mark Gasol can score any way he wants and Embiid is getting there, Anthony Davis is pf but he could, can play and has played center. Nurkic is great with his foot work too and can shoot really nicely. Whiteside was way better than Capela when they were going to him or when he showed he cared. Rudy golbert with Harden would tribe even more. He would dominate because Harden would suck in the defense and he could score easily no problem. Here are some other just to name a few KAT, Jokic, Cousins, Steven Adams.

So you are saying you would take any of those over Capela ? Jordan would be flying in this team. Lob city 2.0 improved version. And if we had Anthony Davis we would be wrecking the nba. And Adams if we had a center who could be that tough and get tough rebound or reflections we would be even better.

Lol even Harrell manhandled Capela. Or how
Also people that overpower him not just in strength but in ability. Drummon overpowerd him too last season and how about boogie Cousins and so did Al Horford and Adams.

Yea Capela is what we need but he isn’t great we could be way better with other centers if we could swap them for him.
Just don’t overhyped him or over rate him because he is a Houston rocket.

And finally we overpaid him too. First offer should have been the final offer. Crying about getting more money or asking about it like he is the pillar of the team. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t get as many points as he does here. And many In the NBA know that because no one tried to even made an offer to Clint at least just to mess with us and mess with our cap. And his avg salary is 18m and getting paid 15.2m this year by 2020 if he hasn’t improve more we would prob trade him because he will be getting paid 17.5m

And no nothing is up here I just see reality not being enamored with an illusion. Clint being elite? Let’s watch some highlights and dissect his game. Lol last game he even screen one of our guys for an easy layup and that sequence had like 3 or 4 mistakes by Clint that let to either he missing the easy put back or not getting the rebound and blocking our own guy on defense. I was the whole games not just nitpicking when we score or I don’t just watch highlights. Maybe you are or if you are at Toyota center you have missed some stuff.

lets talk more about frankenstein..ppl said hes slow footed and challenged in lateral quickness but if thats the case i didnt see it bothering him last several games, and the silly mistakes catching the ball and similar i hope its just rookie jitters until the game slows down for him...

Stats tell you exactly what they’re supposed to in a closed environment like the nba. You don’t even have to deal with noise, only biases.

The rockets score more, and get scored on less, when Hartenstein is in the game. That *could* mean he’s a better player, but it could also mean a host of other things.

Don’t pull a Holic. Don’t blindly stick to your story regardless of what the stats are telling you. Incorporate them, and learn why they are outputting something you didn’t expect.

Yea I think he will get better though. He moves well for a big guy and he has defended well outside the perimeter. But he has had a lot of those mistakes that make you grind your teeth. It’s not all his fault we just pushed him into the rotation and he is just a rookie.

Most of the time I smh but still like what he is capable and putting him in will help speed his progress. I already seen some improvements in the last couple of games. He needs to catch those passes, dunk with force and just a bit more confident or maybe he just getting used to the scheme.

Also it didn’t helped that we were playing like trash and all his mistakes were magnified because of that too.

Must be for the subscribers only because on CF your insight tops out at phrases like "dude gets it" or "kid can ball"

Oh, to be of the privileged few who get to see this homespun model!

Playing against backups surely helps Hustlestein’s stats. Our second unit is usually better than our opponent’s second unit.

    https://stats.nba.com/team/1610612745/onoffcourt-traditional/?Season=2018-19&SeasonType=Regular Season&DateFrom=11/02/2018

Over the 4 game win streak:

    Hartenstein On
    127.2 Ortg
    86.9 Drtg
    40.3 NetRtg

    Capela On
    123.2 Ortg
    110.2 Drtg
    13.0 NetRtg

    Since November 2nd (7-2)

    Hartenstein On
    111.2 Ortg
    83.6 Drtg
    27.6 NetRtg

    Capela On
    110.8 Ortg
    107.7 Drtg
    3.1 NetRtg

Here is RPM which seeks to use regression to try and adjust for things like competition and teammates on the floor.

    http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/2/position/6

    Hartenstein:
    -1.92 ORPM / 0.77 DRMP / - 1.22 RPM

    Capela:
    - 0.93 ORPM / - 0.22 DRPM / - 0.95 RPM

Both stats still have some sample size issues, but RPM is certainly suggesting that there's a teammate on the floor and opponent on the floor factor to those on/off numbers, which of course is what the natural assumption would be.

Still, this is not bad for Hartenstein as a rookie backup C. His RPM is negative but not too bad.

Isn't the fact that Dantoni puts Capela in vs their starting centers and puts Stein in vs their backups and he brings way more energy than their backups do?

Hart also gets pulled when he obviously can't hang with the other teams bench. There are some games where he does well and he gets to play like 15+ minutes, other games he goes in for like 4 minutes and it's obvious he's a disaster so he gets put back on the bench immediately. This will obviously help your stats since your minutes played in disadvantageous situations gets extremely limited.
