Ask Grizzle fans if they are happy with this trade. End of story.

He doesn't get a ring, but at least he's rewarded with an extension according to an article on RealGM.

It still doesn't take away the fact that Grizz essentially got the 48th pick and expiring salary for one of the NBA's best big men. It also doesn't change the fact that Gasol going to the Lakers is the 2nd biggest reason why the Lakers have two new trophies and a finals appearance the last 3 years.

Its a gift trade only a moron and someone with vested interests would do. I don't think you can even do this trade on NBA live or NBA2k, it would be rejected by the CPU.

How can you say the NBA was not involved in this deal when the silhoutte of the NBA Logo was the mastermind?

First off, Pau Gasol like Kevin Garnett are rare franchise players for whom some GMs say you cannot get equal value.

When these type of players demand a trade because of a weak supporting cast, its probably because they want to win so a reasonable GM would try to meet their demands and build a good supporting cast.

Its not like Paul Pierce and Kobe Bryant didn't demand a trade at some point in their career because of the weak supporting cast. The reasonable GMs who had their team's interest at heart sought a stronger supporting cast. Besides, they are contractually obliged to play for the team so you technically you don't have to give in to their demands.

What is uniquely rare about the Pau Gasol deal is the apparent secrecy and swiftness of the deal apart from the lopsidedness. They consummated the deal like a thief in the night and they robbed the grizzlies blind. Not only do you trade a player that is hard to get equal value for , you trade him for a bag of beans, like jack and the beanstalk.

It was like Chris Wallace was so itching to pull his trigger on this deal literally salivating at the prospect of acquiring Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, et. al.

There is a saying that " where there's smoke , there's fire"... with the Garnett deal there was smoke billowing from the kitchen as Kevin Mchale and Danny Ainge were cooking something.

The Gasol deal was a blazing inferno that people could not ignore.

Also some food for thought, if both Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett wanted a trade, and they were both players hard to find equal value for, why weren't they just traded for each other???

Just to rile up the conspiracy theorists, before these trades by the celtics and lakers , the spurs were usually in championship contention, and it was openly lamented that ratings were down when the spurs were in the championship
