I can't believe no one's favored Bull over Clyde so far in this thread. Bull is clearly more articulate, analytical, and logical in his broadcasts. I like Clyde, but totally for the wrong reasons ( a.k.a. he sucks so bad but he's a big name ). Truth be told, Clyde wouldn't even pass my journalism broadcasting class in U of H.
Dude benefits from the hierarchy JUST LIKE PEOPLE HERE DO, especially when they start stupid threads that no one else would get away with. LIVE WITH IT
Guys, its Clyde freakin' Drexler. 10 time NBA All-Star, Hall of Famer and voted one of the 50 greatest players of all time. You try to fire him from commentating!
i really don't get it either....Bullard is 10 times better in that spot ...would much rather see him have that full time gig next year...
Clyde, Bull and Fran Blinebury need to all drop the music references. Fran does it every blog and Bull is so carried away that he completely mangles his pregame work by forcing song titles into basketball lingo. Clyde is progressively getting worse with this now also.
Third post in the thread. As far as Clyde, it's not that important to me who is doing color. All I really care about is watching the actual games. Clyde isn't very good at it but he does have a likable personality. And think about how much fun people have had laughing about the stuff he says. His on camera speaking skills aren't great but he is pretty funny, even if it is unintentional at times.
Because the man is awesome and loves Houston and won us a title? Personally I love Cylde and I laugh my ass on when he's on and I dont care a pinkie what anyone else says
If bullard would learn how to operate the clip video thing during his "bullseye" I'd like him better. "Ok, now here, you see... X is going to swing around... Now.... let it go" "Ok STOP THERE... now you see after this, Y is going to set the pick and ... Ok, let that play out... OK STOP THERE" I can just picture this guy running the machine rolling his eyes as bull stumbles through it (though usually the eventual analysis is pretty good, especially for as spontaneous as it is). I like Bull's commentating, but he is every bit as awkward as Clyde. Both need work. Calvin was much better, but a little like Milo in that he sometimes seemed to forget the game was being played, and just having fun. It's all good, and I can't hate on them giving Clyde a little favoritism, even if I think Bull works a bit harder at it and is slightly better... I mean, Bull would never let "clubbing baby seals" slip and there's good and bad in that, but his music references in the Keys to the Game are getting worse and worse. My question is, how did Jim Carrey, errrrr, Lisa Maloskey get her gig back?
I cannot stand him constantly on Kobe's, Wade's, and CP3's jock though. You are supposed to be a homer.
I walked into the Cavs/Rockets game this year. As I walked up Horry was to my side. He walked in right behind me through the ticket checkers. Did they check his ticket? Of course not. Did he have a ticket? Probably not. In other words he has two tickets hanging in the rafters. Clyde has one. Let them do whatever the hell they want.
all true. And yet Bullard is overly corny, is overly a homer about the refs and fouls, and is overly stoppy (new word) with the replay/Bulls Eye thing. If he wasn't so over the top (and FORCED over the top), he'd be my pick
Clyde is pretty funny, but offers no real basketball analysis other than talking about what he did when he was a player. Bullard is better at that, but he complains about the refs all the time, give it a rest, we know they suck but talk about something else. Bullard is more of a homer than Clyde. This is why I prefer national TV broadcasters, they don't show any bias and talk about the other team as well. They usually talk more strategy(especially Brown and Van Gundy).
I find both Bull and Clyde rather annoying, Bull goes on and on about the JINX of Worrel and he always complains about officiating...and Clyde just repeats everything Worrell says and uses different words... "kwame Brown is a quality big man in this league" Really Clyde? He is? BRING BACK MURPHY...or bring in someone else.. Chilcutt
Clyde has finally gotten to the point with me where I *love* how bad he is. It's like that one old relative you have whom everybody tolerates their antics, but if they were gone, you KNOW you'd miss them. Bullard is, like others have said, a little too stiff and corny. He is getting better and he knows basketball very well, he has a future in the booth for sure.
I love Clyde.. I think he makes the games so entertaining to watch if you just listen to what he says... When Bill asks him a question about the offense he never answers it, all he does is ramble about nothing... so funny
STOP COMPLAINING. Jesus. Watch the damn game and stop paying attention to the commentary so much, Clyde was awesome for us, I'm glad he still has his heart in Houston. Just be glad we don't have that Celtic Homer.
