I wasn't aware Uverse locked you into a contract. It's not like they twist your arm to stay after your discount expires. I actually had mine renewed. You have to understand, it's much easier for them to retain their existing customers than it is to get new ones. All I had to do was be decent to the person helping me out. I think you guys are way too cynical when it comes to customer service. It's not some big conspiracy and they're not out to get you. You'll get the same experience more or less with all companies. The thing is youre not dealing with companies. You're dealing with individuals here. Whether youre smooth or not with the given situation is up to you.
Seconded. Every time I have called UVerse with a question, a rep reviews my account, and has actually informed me each time that there is some slightly better package available that gives me this and that, and for a little less, and the speed is better, etc etc. Last time, they actually added two premium channels, and *lowered* my bill, *and* doubled my internet speeds. I disagree with the person who says that UVerse is essentially the same as Comcast. It's not true, and I have had UVerse for over a year now.
I just find this so hard to believe. AT&T has been complete garbage for me for the 2 years that I've had them. I actually never had problems with BellSouth, but then AT&T bought them out. I have them for phone and internet, and I can't switch unless I cancel DirecTv because AT&T is the only DSL provider in my area. As soon as my contract is up with DirecTv, I'm cancelling both and going to Cox for interenet, and just not having cable TV any more.
ATT has made big strides in improving their TV service over the last year or so. Internet research will give you all the complaints from back in 2006 and 2007, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. I switched from DirecTv, which is commonly known as having the best HD picture of all the HD providers. If using a 1 to 10 scale, I'd give U-verse a 9. It is very, very close to DTV IMO, but some people have a more critical eye than others. I'm in a new neighborhood with new wiring, and I'm less than 1000 ft from the node that feeds the TV picture. Those things will help the HD picture quality, so it may not be the same for everyone.
