So again: is the Tea Party, at least in part, a racist movement?

Race definitely plays a part - the anti-black, anti-immigrant (hispanic), anti-Muslim slants pretty much makes it clear. You never see a white group victim of their rhetoric unless it's gays (another form of discrimination).

These people use poor as a code word for blacks, use immigrants and defense of borders as a code word against hispanics, marriage and values as code words against gays, and 9/11 as a means to bash Muslims in not so subtle ways.

Tea party is an extremist (and close to facist) party that hides itself under the clock of nationalism and patriotism. Very disturbing.

I was writing something thoughtful to respond to your generalization and realized where I was at, CF.bbs, home of the screaming liberals. (hey, that's funny )

Nothing more needs to be said.

But then again, and just for grins on this fine Sunday morning, go ahead. Keep it up. Keep calling us racists. Keep telling us to go to hell. Keep telling us that we think that blacks belong at the wrong end of rope. Keep telling us that we are the enemy.

Feel better? I hope so. Because it must be far easier to point fingers at a group, than at a single person.

 

I think if you disagree that the tea party isn't dominate by a race oriented ethos, I suggest you really take a deeper look.

People in the tea party are ignorant and closed-minded, and yes, a good percentage of them are racist...that's what the party attracts.

 

You can say that it isn't true, but that doesn't change the facts. Look at the results of studies done. The tea party members are more likely to have a negative view of immigrants and blacks than even other Republicans. If you don't like people calling the Tea Party racists, then clean the racists out of it.

The University of Washington did a survey of people in the TPM. Its findings support people who say there is a significant proportion within the TPM who hold prejudiced views.

I'd urge people to remember the TPM is a loose coalition of various groups without the central leadership of the GOP. By nature of this political structure, many Tea Partiers are compartmentalized and they have a bubble mentality insofar as not knowing the percentage of other subgroups' membership within the TPM. In other words, the pro-business, educated, and wealthy suburban family who formerly identified themselves as Republicans is unaware or dismissive of the extent of people within the TPM who hold very different views towards religion, minorities, and immigrants.

I say all the above thanks to info from various friends whose careers (political consultant, journalist, and community organizer) allow them to witness the actual composition of the diverse TPM rather than the one put forth by some of its defenders which downplays the bigotry.

It completely ignores the fact that they also hate on the basis of sexual orientation and economic policy, of which they are unapologetically proud.

Also, it's rarely discussed that the Boston Tea Party was an act of terrorism carried out by Americans against the British.

They adopted the name, but set out to terrorize Americans instead.

LOL, yep, I’ll agree to that, a study by the liberal academia on the tea party. Yeah, that works for me (tongue in cheek). Sadly, we are so divided that any study will be tinged with biasness. Hell, we can’t even trust scientists anymore because of politics. How freaking sad is that?

Your suggestion of cleaning out the racists in our group suggests that your group is without racists. Call me unconvinced because I seriously doubt you can, with a straight face, tell me that some liberals are not racist.
