Not one of those players has superstar potential. It's exciting to add players like Chandler Parsons in the second round when your team is already solid - but when your team is mediocre finding a solid rotation guy in the second round doesn't do much for me. The Knicks pick isn't going to be very good and of the other guys mentioned only Marcus Morris has even played in the NBA - the others may NEVER play in the NBA. I might as well be excited about Malick Badiane. And Marcus Morris isn't exactly setting the world on fire, is he? It's been my experience that very few players develop into stars gradually. Most stars are performing at a high level the very first year they enter the league. Even guys like Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant who came into the league straight from high school were key players for their teams by the end of their first seasons (if not flat out stars). Marcus Morris has barely seen the floor.

Right - rebuilding the way almost every championship team over the last 30 years has rebuilt is the dumb way. Obviously guys like Dwight Howard are just waiting in line to play with roleplayers like Lowry and Parsons.

Seriously, look at our history. Over the last 15 years our biggest name free agent signings have been Pippen, Shandon Anderson, Maurice Taylor, Bonzi Wells, , Stromile Swift, Trevor Ariza and Samuel Dalembert. Sure - we traded for a few stars. We were able to trade Horry and Cassell and some other guys for Barkley. We traded Steve Francis, Cuttino and Cato for McGrady. But guess what? We don't have assets that desirable right now to make another trade for a star - which is why the closest we've come to acquiring one in the last few years is a 32 year old Pau Gasol or, if we want to get crazy, Kevin Martin.

Now, you tell me - if we can't seem to acquire a free agent worth a damn and we don't have the assets to acquire a franchise caliber player via trade, how the hell do we have any alternative but to roll the dice and try to acquire a star via the draft?

And for all of those who say we don't need a superstar to win a championship - REALLY? ONLY THE PISTONS HAVE WON ONE WITHOUT ONE! AND THEY DID IT ONCE! ONCE! ONCE IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE NBA! IT WAS A FLUKE, NOT A MODEL OTHER TEAMS SHOULD FOLLOW! And as for mentioning "Dallas only had one Superstar" ... TRUE! But he happens to be a top 5 player in the league. Just like the Rockets only had one superstar when we won our championships but he was the best player in the league. I'm not saying we have to build a Miami Heat like team for me to be happy - but this current path will not net us a franchise caliber player. A Pau Gasol type will be the best we can hope for (and he's a second fiddle), which is why there are literally fans here discussing the dream scenario of possibly acquiring Eric Gordon and Brook Lopez via free agency this offseason. It makes me sick.

p.s. Aside from the Pistons, every single team to win a championship in the last 30 years was led by a superstar they either drafted themselves or acquired in a draft day deal. Rebuilding via the draft isn't just the smart way - it's the historically proven ONLY way. (and seriously, I don't want to hear about the Pistons one stupid fluke championship)

Either way, I think that Houston is trending upward.
