How come they never had rappers on American Idol? Or at least have that ChicEasy guy do a cover of Jay Z.. since Jay Z is apparently some kinda legend.

There are plenty of rappers out there that are socially conscious and politically aware. Most of them just aren't mainstream. Immortal Technique, Hasan Salaam, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Mos Def, and Lupe Fisaco are some that come to mind. Not saying that you're lazy doboyz, but if people in general would just go out and seek the kind of music they want to hear then we wouldn't be worrying about this.

Rapping is NOT singing. It's a different talent... or... talent to run your mouth in rhyme... :D

Another way to revive it  :

The consumer. Too many people are still buying the lousy stuff. And some of the big names right now will put out any silly song for money. They're bigger whores than the women in their videos.

Make up a catchy phrase, a stupid dance...what's that guy's name? Oh yeah, MC Hammer!

lack of creativity (everything doesnt have to be about bling and b****es),

club songs, which basically means any song that has some version of "shake it girl" repeated over and over with shallow and lame lyrics

and the fact that good rap doesn't get a lot of play.

The people who fueled rap when it was at its peak from like 95-03 are all grown up now. That's why rap sucks these days. You just got older! ;)

You know, i will be the first to admit that rap isn't like most other music forms. I don't go to it to be enlightened or educated. I think, similar to a certain other type of music, it emphasis the struggle of that man so that you can relate and feel whatever emotion that he's feeling.

Correction: clubs created rap. I don't have a problem with rap being made to dance to. That's the way its supposed to be. The problem is that people aren't even doing that well anymore. I made better beats than some of these guys when i was 12.

Nobody said he was a historian, but at least he makes an effort. Although, I've found most of his lyrics to be historically accurate so maybe it's his intrepretation of the facts that can be debated.

i dont know what's left to rap about...

    rappers already told us about

    1. their rims
    2. their gold teeth
    3. their shoes
    4. how big a girls butt is
    5. where she got her butt from
    6. and what they plan to do to the butt

    7. other sexual acts (i can't belieive modern day society is singing about "ejaculating on a girls back then putting a blanket on her so when she stands up the blanket sticks therefore making her look like she has a cape")

    8. their gold chains. their platinum chains. their lack of chains

    9. how good they are at rapping
    10....

The Club scene killed radio play rap. There are still rappers that are talented, but they do not get air play. Most hip hop stations around the nation qualify songs they play on the radio by one major factor. Is this song hot in the club? Therefore tons of songs with good beats and no lyrical substance get radio play.

Also over all music sales have been in decline not just rap. Just because the music industry is making less money then before from years and years of inflatted cd prices does not mean rap is dead. The same can be said for rock. I hardly listen to 94.5 for rock or 97.9 for hip hop, because they play crap. Roam the internet for people with substance regardless of which genre you listen to there are still people that make quality music. Just because it's not on the radio does not mean it's not good.

Common, Lupe Fiasco, Zhro, Dead Presidents, DJ GI Joe, and Jedi Mind Tricks are all examples of great lyricist individuals or groups that rarely get radio play if any.

I agree with this. I'm 33, pretty much grew up on hip hop from its roots, and I was talking to guy from Philly who I worked with who is a year younger. We were discussing how when we were in High School, radio play for rap used to be pretty diverse. Particularly, he was saying how he spent a lot of time in Houston when he was young and how surprised he was to hear the stuff he did on the radio. Remember when acts like Diggable Planets, X-Clan, Public Enemy, etc used to get air time, as well as the nwa, luke, etc. Now its all gangsta/girls. Its ridiculous.

^ what about all you gotta do is tell the rapper guy what you're sipping on... and he'll promise that he's gonna keep it coming all night long....?

Or how about how to dance to the right, to the right, to the right, to the right... to the left, to the left, to the left, to the left... and how they kick, now kick, now kick, now kick... but how to walk it by yourself, now walk it by yourself ?

    :D

My problem with those more hip hop guys is that most of them have garbage beats and garbage flow. Dead Prez and Lupe might be the exception but it seems everyone is a specialist nowadays. You have great flow but your rhymes go nowhere (Wayne), you have great lyrical content with a message but a so-so flow (Common), you have great beats but everything else is lacking (almost everyone). I wanna see people with it ALL.

Rap has been in the process of being killed for a while now (after Pac/BIG deaths), but the past year has been absolutely ridiculous. we went from talkin about rims and hos and money and clubs to simply talkin about nothing.. yes, nothing.. "cranking a soldier boy"? what in god's name is that? seriously, yoooouuuuuu? what are we, 5th graders? and it doesn't stop there, if it was just an obscure local r****d who made this joke of a "song" or should I call it "random rambling", it would've been OK, but the guy is a national hero now, everybody knows soulja boy!!

now, after this thing quited down, I was kinda relieved, and I thought that this would be an aberration and we wouldn't have to endure this again..

but guess what? brand New SONG!!! "Soulja boy told me! GET SILLAAAY X 1000"

get silly? seriously? get silly? what kinda BS is that?
