His dunks also help get the crowd into the game. That never hurts. We still need Bonzi though in the event that we meet the Spurs in the playoffs.
i like when kirk curls off yao and gets to the basket a lot more then when head does it. luther only finishes if he's wide open, kirk will finish on anyone.
I thought the same thing. I was happy when the deal went down because it gave us a bigger option in the backcourt over guys like Head and Wesley and it was a substantial upgrade in athleticism. The problem was that I thought he would only be an athlete and lack basketball skills and IQ. I have been pleasantly surprised at how smart and unselfish he has been on the floor. He impacts the game in many different ways which is why he is now getting Bonzi's minutes. His slashing and dunking ability is a breath of fresh air, his ballhandling isn't that bad, and his passing has been better than expected.
I've been on the Snyder bandwagon since day 1 and he hasn't disappointed. He attacks the basket with more ruthlessness than Tmac has in 3-4 years and his cuts to the basket when playing with Yao are going to start equaling a lot of dunks and fouls. I also happen to think he is our best one-on-one defender. Tmac shows flashes and Battier is the league's best team defender but for pure, man-to-man, lockdown defense Snyder is the best we have. If Snyder could get enough minutes to earn a reputation he would be considered an elite defender. Did I mention he finishes strong at the rim?
are u shure... that Bonzi will play eventually... this is what im hoping... ive always liked JVG, even through all the criticism he went through... but not playin bonzi is just stupid.. the only way id be happy is if Jeff is keeping him out to get in more shape before the playoffs... and this is what im hoping for..... HES OUR SECRET WEAPON AGIANST THE SPURS!! lol
Snyder is fearless. He'll attack on anyone. He tries to dunk over everyone. In his rookie year - he tried a two handed strong dunk over Mutumbo - only to be rejected. LOL Poor Snyder. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qExa6gKGG14"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qExa6gKGG14" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
That wasn't his rookie year, he was a Jazz his rookie year. I prefer this youtube clip... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/61z4UJq3xnY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/61z4UJq3xnY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Yeah that's right. My bad - for some reason I thought it was his rookie season. My mistake. Thats a nice dunk - just to show you Snyder is fearless. Whenever he dunks - it's a hard one.
we traded for the wrong guy, we needed JR smith, that being said Snyder still has alot of value and is more long term solution than bonzi. he is making strides
I have been pimping Snyder ever since we got him here, and always thought he would eventually work his way back into the rotation when he got back from his wrist injury. He's a good player but a young player nevertheless, but I am confident that with patience and direction he will fulfill his potential. As for his 3-pt shooting, he's a much better shooter from beyond the arc than he has displayed so far in his short tenure with the Rox. He isn't a sharpshooter by any means, but he's an adequate shooter, at least as good as if not better than McGrady and not far behind Rafer (he's about a 35% shooter from downtown). Considering how Snyder likes to play (i.e. less outside shooting and a lot more slashing and penetrating) his outside shot isn't a huge factor on most nights. Next to Yao, he's our best finisher around the basket (I know it's not saying much). On a team of outside shooters, he brings a unique ability/skill-set to our lineup. He's a good role player...
That glaring weakness won't be addressed before this off season. So no sense in debating that point any further now when we're a few weeks away from the playoffs. I will judge the organization based on what they do in the off season to bolster our weak spots (primarily 1 and the 4).
who cares what the shot looks like, as long as it goes in: Like Chuck Hayes free throws and when he creates for himself...he never misses that spin jump hook in the paint....ugly but reliable Marion's shot is ugly, but hmm he does well.
Please don't offense if we side with JVG on this...him being the head coach, and having to deal with Kirk on a personal basis daily, all that stuff... Besides, this is Kirk's 3rd team in 3 years...I agree he's not a bad guy, but drifts into the knucklehead zone every now and then...still not a lost cause like Eddie Griffin...
Just an observation... I think all that Kirk was lacking was the sense of belonging, and he's finally found it with the Rockets. It seems like he gets on extremely well with Yao. They talk on the court and the bench pretty frequently. He's not that great of a ball handler... but at least he drives relentlessly instead of attempting a difficult jumpshot or floater that Head does all the time.
