i remember morey mentioned Nets' trade on 1560, thx 4 DD's recap. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=163125
How dare TMac deprive us of the opportunity to watch his cousin writhing on the floor like he just got shot every other game? Selfish b*stard...
That's a good point. When you watch Magic it almost seems like the entire team tries to fit into Vince's game. It should be opposite. He is taking more shots (yet he is not the best player on the team), he is not attacking the basket and he can't hit the shots he takes. Maybe he could have helped us last year in the playoffs, but he doesn't fit our 'team game' this year for sure.
well it's the question of what could have been in the playoffs last year if we had Vince that really bothers me about it all.
I guess Leeb and I will agree to disagree. I was told things that were probably opposite of what he was told. He stormed into the locker room upset that the offense wasn't going through him anymore and demanded "Play me right or trade me." Well when he was traded, he didn't like the team he was going to and so he searched far and wide for a doctor who would agree to do the microfracture. All the other doctors told him to play it out. His knee needed to "play off the rust". Obviously he didn't think so... But mysteriously this year in a contract year, he thinks that's what he needs. hmmmmmm In the end, I think it's best the trade didn't happen. The Nets found a trade in the offseason they thought would help them with a young piece in Lee and with the surgery, the Rockets were able to have Tracy away from the team. Which is what they wanted. There will be a better deal
excellent post. I've been pondering this as well. LZ on 1560 has been dropping mention of T-Mac quelching the VC trade all season long. Initially I was pissed, thinking we'd be better with VC, but now that we have seen how well the team is playing, T-Mac actually provided us a nice little blessing.
This is why you cant have a logical discussion about anything tracy related because alot of people throw common sense out of the window. Let me say this again and maybe it will sound a little clearer. I'm going to say and its not a knock against those that reported a deal on the table, but i highly doubt it and here is why. The only way a deal was sent in to the league if the nets agreed to waive the physical. If the deal was proposed, there is no way in hell mcgrady could've passed a physical given by any team doctor on his knee. The nets would've did a strees test and a mri and he wouldve failed, thus the trade falling through. On this point, NJ could accept tracy without a physical he would fail and have the rockets throw in a extra player or pick. That extra player would've been scola, landry,or brooks to which the rockets balked. Now the supposed blocked trade wouldn't have been blocked as some say and the nets could show their fans that although they traded for a injured guy, they got a young player or another expiring player. Now we can go on and on, back and forth, but how hard is that to understand? There is no way tracy could block a trade with a surgery because the nets knew he couldn't pass a physical. Remember Sean Elliot? What about Tyson Chandler last year with the bad ankle?
you're the one not being logical by throwing everyone who disagrees with you under the bus. When there is enough smoke, surely there is at least a spark. I'm not sold that a trade was pending, but it sure as hell was heating up. Tracy's agent brought it to his attention, he said hell no and b****ed out. All information from all doctor's stayed consistent through every evaluation on Tracy. He needed to play through the pain. The portion of his knee that the micro-fracture was done on was a non weight bearing portion. This means that it had no real impact on his movement and was more of a mental barrier. Did doctor's agree that micro-fracture would help that portion of his knee? Yes. It would replace some of the cartilidge and would surely help. Did he need to end his season and take the risk of this surgery? No. at least not to the opinion of the first fifteen doctors. And I believe that Dr. James Andrews even evaluated him as physically able to play. Tracy recommended micro-fracture and a doctor said that it could help. A doctor didn't recommend micro-fracture.
In those failed trades that you mentioned.. The paper work went to the league. That's why it is always pending physicals. If a player failed the physical, the trade would be rescinded but the initial paper work was sent to the league. This trade was cancelled in between paper work being filed and players taking physicals because Tracy announced he was having surgery. He didn't want to go to Jersey if his cousin wasn't there. He didn't want to be part of a rebuilding process. And we were going to throw in a young player. New Jersey was looking around seeing what they could have received for that player because they had a point guard already. Another reason why I am glad the trade didn't happen.
for what its worth, the story i heard at the trade deadline last year was essentially identical to what stevierebel is saying, and is also supported by the article that started this thread. i don't know the author of the article, and i don't know stevierebel, but for three completely separate sources to have the major facts of this all aligned triangulates to something resembling truth to me. you can argue about the details all you want, of the hows and the whys and the whats, but at the end of the day the insider viewpoints all appear to agree on the key points.
The only young point guard we had at that point was Aaron Brooks. I'm glad the trade didn't go through, then.
Stevi, we can agree to disagree. I just think posters give tracy too much power on this board. There was a zero percent chance he could've blocked a trade. Just like people said he would never suit up again in a rockets uniform. Unless u have a no trade clause like Kobe, then as a player you cant. I will also say this, is this any dirtier than what morey did to Landry the night before free agency? I mean landry looked pretty good in the playoffs and late that season and the night of free agency, morey comes out and says Landry has knee issues and needs a mri. After charlotte offered him a deal, the rox matched quickly and there was no mri given to landry. For the record, i thought they should*e traded tracy and his contract value this summer and move forward just as i say they should dump shane and yao also. Get rid of the 2 old broke horses and the inatangible 7m guy and get value and young guys before its too late.
The NETS already had a young point guard, which means we wouldn't have traded Brooks anyway. Probably Landry.
For the second time, microfracture surgery "regrows" cartilage. It has nothing to do with ligament damage to a knee. Therefore you CAN pass a physical even if you need it....hence the MRI's showing nothing. It's all about pain tolerance...many athletes play with little to no cartilage in their knees
i'm responding to stevierebel's post. According to him, the Nets would have looked to trade the young point guard - who else but Brooks? - after getting him from Houston. BTW if such a trade went through, the Rockets would not have gotten rid of both their point guards in the middle of the season. Which means they probably would have kept Rafer Alston and therefore, no trade for Kyle Lowry either. Scary.
Weren't the Rockets doctors saying he was fine to play, he would just have to deal with the pain? If so, how would he have failed the physical? I mean, it took him like 52 doctors to find someone to do the microfracture surgery.
I believe it was a strained vulva. 3 sets of doctors found nothing. I find it hard to believe that he would have failed a physical...hence announcing the surgery without the due diligence the Rockets asked for
