I agree the skits were funny, but he wasn’t.. I couldn’t get past how bad he was on stage.. I really liked the "RICK, RICK, RICK!!" skit with Amy Poehler as the hyper little girl and Tom Brady as her uncle, but he is like nails on a chalkboard while trying to read cue cards..
"The late BB"???? Please explain. I'm not saying they have to book blues acts. There is plenty of good music out there, but they choose to book Assly Simpson even after she was caught lip-syncing on their own show. Pathetic.
I believe SNL went down after they got rid of Norm Mcdonald as Weekend Update host. He was a riot. After that day, I have yet to see one funny episode of SNL.
It really gives the feeling of something improtant going on; after reading it I wished I had been a writer on those early shows, it sounded so creative and dangerous and so forth. I mean, this was when there was only an handful of channels, and something like SNL being that subversive and in-jokey amongst the maturing 60's / 70's generation is so cool. That book is awesome.
Ooops. I keep mistakenly saying "the late BB" when I think Barry White, but I meant BB King. Agreed totally about Assly. Then she gets to come back? I agree. SNL likes the controversial stuff because it makes people WATCH.
You need to get out more. I haven't bothered with SNL since the earlier Will Ferrell days. It's a shame, considering how much better it was in the first half of the 90s (IMO, the only era that stands with the original cast). Show is simply living off of its name at this point - I have to wonder if they're even trying. Evan
Well Amy Poehler is hot among the current female cast, and she's talented. Agree SNLs of late are not as good as those in earlier years, but it still gives me good laughs from time to time. Any Dana Carvey fan here? I think he was underrated - his impersonation of Bush Sr. is the best, and funniest. Too bad he went to movie business.
In retrospect, he is not as funny as i thought he was at the time. that is weird; some comics seem to 'age' better than others. Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman (especially), Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Christopher Guest, even Chevy Chase - the work on the show aged well. Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Billy Crystal, Mike Myers, even - gasp - Chris Farley - did not age as well to me. They were good at the time, (well, not Adam Sandler, who really did almost kill that show), but reruns are unbearable. Maybe I was too young to understand what a powerhouse Eddie Murphy was at the time. He was just unbelievable, week in and out. It looks like Hakeem playing in Little Leaguee, except it was not really Little League.
Man, I'm glad someone else said it. I've always thought that the early 90s/late 80s have grown more and more overrated in the last several years. Phil Hartman is a huge exception to that.
