The Saturday Night Live behind the scenes book by Tom Shales says he's a republican. Maybe he changed since then. Still, it's silly when people complain about the treatment of Bush when SNL mocks the President, period. That does matter because it's annoying to have to keep pointing it out.

    So I watched the clip.

A half decent impersonation would have made it OK. But, as others have posted -- it was like he didn't even try. Good delivery would have made up for weak material -- but here we had neither.

Next time Tina Fey should play Obama.

he ran on ending at least one of them:
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uxG0JrWNDaU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uxG0JrWNDaU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

he promised to "evaluate" the situation in Afghanistan and make the best choice, which in the opinion of many (mostly individuals with a fully functional brain) is the get the hell out of that ****hole, instead he's sending in more troops.

    Gitmo hasn't been closed yet

a Public Option is not even being considered now despite the fact that 65% of the population supports a public option and the democrats control the house, senate, and the WH.. instead Obama is preaching bipartisanship even though the idiots on the other side show no signs of willingness to cooperate, instead they cry like babies and say NOOOO to freaking everything.

Oh, and did I mention he increased the number of private contractors in Iraq? yes, I'm talking about those people who can do whatever the hell they want (ie: kill anyone they want) without any laws or guidelines to go by, they're free to do whatever the hell they like (unlike military personnel), and they're deaths aren't reported in the total casualties..

Sounds a lot like freaking change. Barack needs to ball up and start getting stuff done, start by firing that idiot McChrystal, and slamming through a REAL healthcare bill that includes a public option, NO COMPROMISES..

There is no bigger Obama supporter than me and I thought the skit was damn funny. True, Arminson was a little off in his Obama impression but my guess is he was uncomfortable with the skit; understandable since it is a new tact for the show.

As for accomplishments, there aren't any real tangible ones. But there certainly is the total overhaul of the discourse and direction of the Executive influence, however big or small that is.

I said before the election that the system of the United States is not set up to enact any radical legislation, Wyoming's 550,000 people have as much say in the Senate as California's 20 million. The entire judicial branch is built on precedent. And the two party, donation based elective system almost assures that corporate money can dominate any policy. Look no further than the super-majority's failure to change anything as proof.

So, I'm satisfied with Obama so far. You have to lean a little farther than you will settle for to move things. But nothing is really going to change much.

Probably for fear of being called racist somehow. Just as Robert Downy Jr raised a few eyebrows for playing an african american in tropic thunder.

The most insulting part of that skit is Armisen actually pretending to be Obama.

    That guy is not good.

This thread laid down a bunt that went straight into the pitcher's glove.

    Bingo.

The liberals around here like to cover it up by using humor or insulting conservative posters, but even they are recognizing that Obama hasn't done jack squat.

SNL; whee. I never really found SNL funny and I still don't.

Although I wonder if someone could pull out historical references for presidential accomplishments in a half-year; I guess that Truman would win out in terms of the 20th century? Maybe we could have an epic fight with Lincoln's best half-year and George Washington's best.

Damn you lefties are in denial! Wake up from your Obama induced coma and smell reality. Your Messiah hadn't done jack squat like bigtexxx said in the last 9 months . Stop your juvenile vitriol towards other posters when they dissed your Beloved. Your antics are getting old and tired, the only halfway witty lefty around this forum is Sammy. Sammy actually has a brain unlike the rest of you intellectually dishonest fraud!

I think a president who hasn't done anything is a big improvement over one that screwed stuff up royally. Especially since his biggest challenges are the leftover screwups.

But really it's the corporate controlled congress that hasn't done anything.
Obama is pulling their dead weight.

I always wondered, what exactly was the "change' that Obama was supposed to bring? Was he supposed to bring a more cooperative, bipartisan outlook to the white house, and look to cooperate with his opponents rather than defeat them, unlike the previous administration? Or was he supposed to just be the liberal version of Bush (a Bizarro-Bush, if you will), pushing forward with his own agendas and ignoring those that oppose it and giving the democratic party the backbone it has traditionally lacked?

Seems like he's going for the former (and stagnating), and failing in the eyes of his supporters, who want the latter. I don't really have a concrete opinion either way, but I voted for him and looking back, I'm ashamed to say I'm not sure if I'm actually getting what I voted for or not (on the "change" platform, not the promises). What do you guys think?

I love the repubs coming out in this thread and lying about how they voted for Obama, but now regret it. That's the real comedy. Of the 3 of you who said you voted for Obama, I'd bet my hard earned money that at leat two of you are lying, just to try and make a point.

Sigh. See, that's precisely the reason I don't post in this forum and probably won't anymore. Jesus, I don't have an agenda. I'm just asking a freaking question. I thought maybe some of you guys could give some insight since most posters in here are more politically knowledgable than me, and instead I get this. Good lord, what is wrong with you people? Is this all you do, draw lines in the sand and start attacking?

I really don't completely understand Obama's actions, as of late. I work weird hours, so I don't get to see a lot of policial news (I refuse to watch any of the 24 hour cable news channels. They're all terrible. honestly, how does FOX News even exist?), so I'm not all that caught up, outside of the occasional Daily Show and newspaper articles. Lately I've noticed some people that i know are huge liberals are getting a little testy with Obama (Bill Maher on HBO, Daily Show, Micheal Moore in an interview for his movie, some members of my family), so I'm wondering if the change they were looking for was different from the change he was talking about, or is the prevailing opinon that he actually is messing up like they're saying, because he's not being forceful enough? I thought he was supposed to be compromising more than his predecessor. I mean, it's not working, but it seems to me that's because most of his opponents are being unreasonably stubborn.

If anyone knowlegable- liberal, conservatine, republican, democrat, independent, whatever- would care to shed some better light on what I'm missing through reasoned conversation, it would be much appreciated.

(Also, it's insane the way people's reactions vary when I say something that detracts from Obama and that I voted for him in real life vs. the web. In real life, because people see I'm a black male, they just automatically believe me and are more willing to have a frank discusiion. On the internet, I get "I love the repubs coming out... and lying about how they voted for Obama, but now regret it." - Man... American politics  )

Well it is possible you seem to be more full of it to him because who in the hell does not know what kind of change a person they voted for was supposed to bring? I mean you voted for him yet you always wondered what he was supposed to do?

Okay. That makes sense. I should not have said "always wondered." It's like one of those sayings you get so used to using that you sometimes type them totally out of context, so I was wrong there. What I meant is, "I've been wondering over the past couple of months."

Basically, it's just me wondering if the I change I was expecting was different from most others, and if so, did I misinterpret. I'm really just curious what other people think.

(and I already admitted that I'm ashamed that I'm not sure about this. no need to rub it in. :) )
