I've been reading some message boards, and people say the father is a pushy dude. Maybe he rubbed Lorne the wrong way and this was his response.
I saw it at work but without the volume. I was thinking WTF??? The never cut to commercial while the band is playing. Of course, I looked up right after she walked off-stage. I smell a definite sabotage. Just saw the clip provided and.......it......is...... sweet.
Thanks, I found it. Google is my friend. HOLY SWEET GOD DAMN that was funny! What's with the ho-down dance?!?!? Oski is probably right. I don't see how she can recover from this. Her "career" is most likely over. Maybe SNL will learn from this as well and start booking some actual musicians for a change. Think about the bands/artists that have graced that stage over the last 30 years. SNL is better than this. This whole episode reminds me of that video of Milli Vanilli when they were busted. They were "singing" that Girl You Know It's True "song" on stage and their voice track got stuck. It just kept repeating the lyric girl you know it's-girl you know it's-girl you know it's over and over again. So what does Milli (or was it Vanilli) start doing? You guessed it. The Roger Rabbit dance. I guess we can all learn a lesson from this whole saga. If you're lip syncing on stage and the voice track gets stuck, it is always best to either: a) immediately start doing the Roger Rabbit dance b) immediately start doing the ho-down scene from the movie The Urban Cowboy Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch this video 5 more times and then go to bed!
My girlfriend sings opera/choir music at churches, weddings, and events, and saw this incident with me. I too thought that Ashley was busted, but then my g/f explained that many times for pop songs, they do an Alto and Soprano part. Since she didn't have backup singers, she used her pre-recorded voice as the Alto part. She was going to harmonize it by singing the Soprano part live on SNL (rather than not singing at all), but the technicians messed up big time by playing the other half (the alto part) too soon. I say this in NO way to condone her use of pre-recorded vocals, or to make excuses........just to pass on the knowledge that was given to me on the matter. And yeah........they are definately gonna rip on her for a long long time about this....... it was so damn funny.
glc.... i understand the situation your gf proposed, but that is not what happened tonight. First of all, the vocals that were playing were never intended to be harmonized... that part of the song is sung strictly with one voice. Second of all, it was the WRONG song being played. "Pieces of you" had already been 'sung' earlier in the broadcast, and she was supposed to sing something else the second time around. But alas, right before her band started playing the second song, her vocals from the beginning of "pieces of you" starts playing. I really hope they pull a stunt w/ next week's musical guest... and they start playing "pieces of you" right before they start their song. Hell... it could be a running joke at the beginning of every sketch. Sooner or later, they'll be using "pre-recorded voices" for Weekend Update. Man... the possibilities are endless with this joke...
That may be true in some cases but that usually happens during the chorus when there are backup vocals harmonizing the melody. In this case, it happened at the very beginning of the song when there are almost never harmonies or backup vocals. I've actually heard this "song" before and I know that's how it starts vocally, so she was clearly planning on lip syncing the whole song before everything went horribly wrong/funny.
Oh crap, I'm dying laughing... "Where did it come from, where did it go? Where did it come from? Cotton eyed Joe!"
Am I the only one that feels sorry for her. I mean, it's funny as hell (with the whole hippity hop hoedown thing) but you still got to feel for her, considering that it was either sabotage or a busted up tech problem. If her only crime was lip-synching and not knowing how to react to a messed up situation, then she's going to get a whole hell of a lot more grief than she deserves. Because it's definitely true that she'll NEVER live this down. Poor Kid. And I sure hope SNL doesn't rip into her in the future. They were the ones that effed up the track in the first place. I don't care if you like Ashley Simpson or not, but if SNL invites someone to perform with full knowledge of her lipsynching, contributes to screwing her up live on national TV, and then beats up on her the next week, it would just be an absolute low in professionalism.
i also feel sorry for her. It was Funny. but alot of singers play back songs. So why should she be ripped. And it was the mistake of SNL, so basically she did nothing wrong.
I cannot tell a lie. I do not have the hots for Ashlee. That being said, if she needs some comforting after this embarassing incident, then I would be happy to hit her. That's just the kind of "stand-up" guy I am.
Disposable pop just became more disposable. It might be interesting if this prompted a backlash against lip-synching in general, instead of just this Simpson-girl franchise. But, it's an entertainment-product, not art, and I don't bear a grudge against it - I don't listen to it, I don't care about it, and it can exist forever in the teenage-comsumption galaxy as far as I'm concerned, just as long as I don't have to live there.
I felt bad for her, but she shouldn't have tried to pass the blame on. I don't know what to think of her as an "artist" though. She got her foot in the door because of her sis so she had to pay no dues and came into her first album with no experience whatsoever. She's not a polished singer and I don't know how much knowledge she really has of music, that being said, she did write all of her lyrics. She must have done something right since her album is already more succesful then any of Jessica's. I'm not sure about he validity of that, I actually found that bit of info in part of an article from Sept. that says Ashlee was groped by a man at a strip club in England. She was there celebrating one of her band members birthday (that's pretty cool of her). She was coming out of the bathroom when some guy grabbed her and demanded she dance for him.
