Apparently, he did save the show. At least according to the SNL documentaries on the early years. He became super famous and then started getting movie roles left and right.
I thought the running bit of Jon Lovitz being dead gave the show it's funniest moments. Especially the very last one. That was priceless. Didn't see it coming at all, which is what made it so funny.
So what's the deal with Robert Downey Jr? I never knew he was a cast member. Do they hate him or what? Is Jim Bruer dead?
In the world of SNL, Robert Downy Jr and Jim Bruer are equivalent to Zan Tabak and Sam Mack in Rockets history.
They should have let Downey Jr. make a joke then. About how he's nothing in that pee-pee faux-celebrity SNL world that nobody cares about but better than the rest of them at life in the real entertainment business.
That would be putting himself above the show... a show that really had nothing to do with his ultimate success. Not to mention that the show likely contributed to his major drug problem that could have ruined him forever. Also, Chris Rock already had the "I was a forgotten member of the cast, but I made it big after!" bit covered.
Hey, watch it mister!!! He's one of the best cast members on SNL, EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tim Meadows said something about a new RS article ranking all cast members in the show's history and apparently he was ranked dead last. I think they were just poking fun at that.
More like calling out someone who didn't watch the show and then laughably called out someone far more famous at their craft than they'll ever be for not being a pro. That, and Choppin' broccoli is one of the funniest sketches ever on SNL and I'll fight to the death anyone who disagrees.
Rolling Stone did do a rankings list and RDJ was last. They explained it not as a slight to RDJ but to the way he was used on his brief stint on SNL. http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/list...ranked-20150211/141-robert-downey-jr-20150211
Go back and look at some of the others in Downey's cast. Randy Quaid, Joan Cusack, Anthony Michael Hall, Damon Wayans... Experimental season.
