Overall I thought it was pretty good though and have been watching some of the old clips on Hulu. Did wish they had Dennis Miller on. I know that he doesn't agree politically with most of SNL but he was probably the best Weekend Update host. Without him there wouldn't have been Jon Stewart or Bill Mahrer.
Some of the casting decisions may have been made to avoid awkwardness in rehearsals and the party. I assume if Lorne didn't want you there, you weren't there. It could have been scheduling conflicts but Bill Murray was at Pebble beach Saturday playing golf. I wonder if he would have missed SNL if he had made the cut?

She's crazy- I mean, there's conservative, which I respect like Dennis Miller- heck, Adam Sandler is a Republican/conservative as is Jon Lovitz- but Victoria Jackson is a Ted Nugent- styled whack job at this point.
There was a thread a few years ago about Victoria Jackson's craziness. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=214410&highlight=victoria+jackson
It seemed like they could have done the Bee Gees Show skit and used a few more celebs and cast members per the round table. I guess that, because Justin and Jimmy did the opening routine with song and dance, they passed on it. But, that skit has been successful for SNL for several years now. It's probably one of the funnier skits on the show in modern times. I thought it would have been given more than a brief non-audio clip appearance. I honestly don't get the point of having Eddie Murphy just come out and speak like that? At least use him in a skit! Couldn't he have resurrected Gumby or Mr. Robinson or something...?
Miley Cyrus was actually very good, imo. I like Kanye as an artist even though he is trash as a human. His performance was okay and the female singer with the oversized wig was Sia. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7rFkpcyZ598" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This- I read an article claiming there were several not invited because of political motivation, but with Sandler and Lovitz in attendance I don't give it much credibility. Inviting Jackson would almost be like inviting Randy Quaid.

Ohlmeyer told Norm he thought he wasn't funny; but it's worth noting that for a few weeks up until the end, McDonald was going through entire Update sets without getting a laugh. At the time it seemed like some weird, coordinated protest or something.
Yeah, it might not even be her views so much as how it affected her dynamic with the cast at the time, and the fact that she let her weight get away from her and completely left the business after SNL. It's a shame, stuff like her Roseanne impression and the "Nicaragua" bit were classic.
Maybe she had the worst relationships, but I think Melanie Hutsell was on the same cast in the later years and was pretty weak. Also those Brat Packers were just a bad idea. And there was a stretch between Tim Meadows leaving and Morgan and Thompson getting their footing where SNL just couldn't cast or write well for the other black players, to the point that it seemed like Mad TV's one advantage.
Victoria Jackson was a pretty big part of SNL for a few years, same with Tim Meadows. Neither was destined to be a star, but they have had decent careers. I don't know why SNL hasn't had more black cast members or really that much diversity overall. My guess is it is a reflection of Lorne Michaels. I am not saying he is racist, but he has an idea of what he finds funny and has ultimate say over the cast. The one they passed on that shocked me was Jim Carrey. Seems like his style of comedy would have been perfect for SNL.
As a whole it was really impressive, been a fan of the show since I was kid so I was pretty happy with most of it.
Oh, I don't actually think SNL should have had more black players, I just remember there was a stretch there where they actually had black players who just weren't doing well; even Jerry Minor, who's been funny in everything else I've seen him (like Rob Riggle). I wouldn't begrudge Michaels's open-mindedness one bit; Morris and Murphy were big enough gambles in their day, to say nothing of Scott Thompson on Kids in the Hall.
If SNL was going the more diverse route, would we have the awesome and underrated sketch comedy juggernaut that is In Living Color? When In Living Color hit the scene, I didn't even bothered to watch SNL only up until the bad boys of SNL hit the scene. The Menendez brothers and Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding and Bill Clinton were big topics during that season if I remembered????
I wonder how much NBC paid Eddie Murphy to get Chris Rock to suck his **** on stage? Eddie has quickly moved into my most hated Celebs ever.
Watched it last night and almost got through it. I'll finish tonight. The Seinfeld Q&A was money. Pretty much every question and answer made me laugh. I always love it when hosts take questions from the "audience" in their monologues. I loved that Samberg and Sandler totally called out Fallon for "breaking" in almost every skit he was in. When it happened for real, it was funny but with Fallon and Sanz it was never real. I was pleasantly surprised to see Bill Murray reprise his famed lounge singer act, even with Paul Shaffer like the old days. Good for Murray for not thinking he was somehow 'above' that now. I got halfway through Cyrus's 50 Ways and fast forwarded it. Love the song and wanted to give her a chance....but aside from the cool snare drummer playing my all-time favorite Steve Gadd groove, it didn't do anything for me. Gave Kayne a chance too, but fast forwarded through it after about a minute. Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE the Blues Brothers. But I really wish they would have just stuck to clips for that portion of the show. That was kind of sad to watch.... I actually wanted more of Steve Martin's King Tut! This show was definitely worth the hype. I have been a fan since I was 6 years old and watching the original NRFPT Players on a black and white TV in my bedroom without my parents knowing. I hope there's another 40 years, personally.
LOL, yeah dude was sucking it hard man. Then he came out and really didn't do anything??? He didn't even have to do the sketches himself, have some of the other cast like Keenan and Jay Pharoh pay tribute with one of his characters at least. I mean did Eddie Murphy really did saved SNL from canceling???? If that's true, that's pretty important to the show's success.
