And that he is; he wants to break the union, but I still wonder if the owners will follow him into huge losses which is what will happen if the season is lost. What is your prediction of the outcome?
81%/19%? The pessimism here stuns me. I think a deal gets done in time. The gap has been significantly narrowed, both sides are feeling the pressure and know the risks of delaying the season. Cooler heads will prevail.
due to no preseason etc the first month is going to be crappy basketball as half the guys who will have no practice under their belts try to get into shape, the sooner that month happens the better
Doesn’t look that great when Fisher’s writing ‘don’t back down’ letters to the union, KG is screaming in the private players meeting about how they owe it to future generations not to concede, and the younger guys like Blake Griffin seem to have embraced these same stubborn sentiments: And then we have the owners’ side, which sounds like their Tuesday offer was the absolute farthest they’re willing to go: Hopefully these guys are just holding out for the best deal, but when the Sunday deadline comes they’ll be more willing to compromise. We’ll see, but I’m not holding my breath.
Well a lot of people have been screaming for a shorter season, as an 82-game season seem to put too much toll on a player's body. Well if the season starts in January or Feb... I think that's the perfect amount of games.
The owners believe that they have to break the players and they don't think will happen until they start losing games (i.e. money), so games will have to be lost. I'd put the over/under on the date a new deal is agreed upon at December 15. Personally (and sadly), I'll take the over.
Just look at the quality of basketball that was played in the lockout shortened 1999 lockout. It was crappy, too many turnovers, etc. I want the full 82 games played.
I love the Rockets. They have always been my #1 franchise. But I have severe issues with the NBA and the players. There are several things that need to be revised/fixed besides just the money issues before I will really respect the league again. I'm not being coy when I say my love for hockey and my interest in the Texans will satisfy me while the NBA gets itself straightened out. Let them duke it out and get a real solution.
Let your love for hockey be as a monkey in a pinata, hiding amongst the candy, hoping the kids don't break through...
Ewwww...hockey. I love hockey live but watching it in TV is about the same as soccer, just not that exciting. When you play it or see it live it's much better but on TV it's just not my cup of tea.
Cute. But it makes no sense. Me stating that I like hockey isn't going to hurt anyone. Or is it? It might cause fans of modern flopfest NBA to question their manhood in my presence.
Understandable. You, like most people here, probably grew up playing basketball and understand the game at a high level, making it easier to watch the details in basketball. Secondly basketball is a sport where someone scores every 20 seconds. It makes it simple to watch. It works for me. However the emotion of my favorite hockey team scoring a goal can only be replicated by the last 2 minutes of a close basketball game; which, as we know, usually degenerates into a three-throw fest. You're right. People drink different cups of tea.
That article says it all. The players are boned. At 50% and a Full season makes the most fiscal sense long term. A bigger percent of smaller pie means less dollars in the life of the new CBA for the players if in the first year they miss a significant amount of games. The Owners have no reason to agree to more then that. The only Ace the players have is if a court rules that the BRI has to stay at current levels and that all missed wages have to be returned if the NBA rules not to play a complete 82 game season. The players slogan to the owners needs to be 53% or let the courts decide. If the players don't take 50% they have to decertify or else not taking the deal in first place would be in vain.
