And you guys need to go see it THIS WEEKEND. The movie on it's own is great, but the hyped up crowds make it SOOOO Much better. Watching this movie in 2 weeks will not have the same effect as if you watch it this weekend.
blanksonablank.com --- this a great site. These films were entered in as part of a contest put on by the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. They showed the best of all the entries prior to the 10:00 last night. The movie itself was pure greatest. There were so many WTF moments...can they possibly be serious? The fact that there is a chance that yes, they were serious, makes it even more ridiculously spectacular. The gratuitous nudity, the unnecessary gore, the incredibly bad acting, the insanely randomness of the script...all this comes together for a great movie-going experience. Folks were clapping many a times at Samuel Jackson's incredible lines --- all while enjoying Samuel Jackson Mother F***** Ale (I'm serious, the Drafthouse actually made this brew for the showings).
I saw it last night. I was expecting a bad movie. I was entertained by it so much, probably a lot due to my friends and other people in the theatre, like 10 other people, being into the movie. Glorious stuff.
Exactly. The showing last night was so fun because it was packed full of people who were so enthusiastic about the movie that they bought their tickets early (it was nearly sold out at the theater I went to in Waco) and brought props and screamed and cheered whenever Samuel L. Jackson had one of his *big* lines...that and I've never heard a crowd laugh so hard at some of the ridiculous horror moments in the film. (I was screaming more than laughing )...but yes, go see this movie...this weekend...it's just too one-of-a-kind to pass up.
I'm seeing it tonight and was thinking there was no way it could like up to the hype about it but after reading a bunch of the reviews it sounds like it might. Then again how hard is it to go wrong with a bunches of snakes, an airplane and Samuel L Jackson.
Just got back... EVERYONE MUST SEE THIS MOVIE. It is sheer greatness. Go see it this weekend while the audiences are still rowdy. You will not be disappointed. Easily the most entertaining movie to come along in years. Snakes on a muthaf*ckin' plane!
two words: inspired genius. and now more words. man was it entertaining. as other have said, get out while the crowds are into it. i went to a 9 pm showing, and i got there at about 8:55 and maybe 1/8 of the theater was full and i was disappointed. but it filled up and by the time it ended it looked about 85 to 90% full. everyone was into it right from the beginning and of course went crazy for the famous line. the first two kills (well technically 2nd and 3rd) were greatness. props to whoever thought them up. overall, just a great experience. plus, even when they had actual movie moments (like plot or being sad or touching moments, it was still pretty good). also, that guy kenan had some really funny lines.
Four great moments.....Go with people who know the hype(or should I say reverse hype) and its a great experience. Go with someone who doesnt and expects a very good movie and be disappointed
Dude, if you want to watch a movie for craptacularness (is that a word? If it isn't, it should be.) watch "Black Belt Jones" I've never seen a funnier crappy movie in my life.
i made a mistake by going too early. a 7 pm showing last night and the theater was empty. it was still enjoyable though but i think it would have been much more fun if we waited another couple of hours.
I went to see it at 10pm and the theater was empty as well. It looks like this movie will underperform the hype.
Yea, I think all of the fanboys went to the Midnight showing thursday night...so, whatever their first weekend numbers are going to be they are going to stay. I doubt its going to blow up off of word of mouth, just doesn't seem like that kinda movie...You either knew about it before or you didnt...I hear it made around 9 mill for the first day.
one cool note on the showing i went to, there were a couple of elderly ladies in their 60s sitting close to us. to my surprise, they were having a good time with the movie and even laughing at the juvenile, silly parts along with us...especially when people were getting killed in various ways. they hooted and hollered too when Jackson said his famous line. i just thought that was cool.
New Line claims $7.8 million through Friday (including the early showings on Thursday). $6.2 million is the Friday only estimate. It'll be #1 for the weekend, but it'll probably top out under $50 million. Of course, given the costs, that's a very profitable movie... probably the most profitable movie for all Time Warner movie divisions all summer.
And I'd expect it to be a beast in the dvd market. The movie will continue it's cult status, and with a few years of home rentals/sales to drive up the brand some more, it'll probably come back really strong with the sequal. Just like the Austin Powers movie.
