In the last three months, I have been stung by a scorpion twice in my apartment in South Austin. Once on my thigh, and once on my stomach. I have also seen another one since then. I guess it's better than snakes though. Does anyone else have experience with scorpions in their house, and if so, how did you get rid of them?
The mamba is probably the most venomous snake there is. Two drops of its poison can send a 200 pound man into paralysis. It really has no equal. Thank God i weigh 210 pounds no ??? Oh well i hate snakes too i use to leave in South Florida and use to see some in my back yard alot the gradner told me that it was because i had, alot of those little wooden bits that help flowers grow, and that they live in those, i took them off and didnt see one since..
Tell the Apt mgmt to stuff copper wool in all of the weep holes; scorpions like to crawl around rocks so the weep holes/cracks in masonry are v attractive to them.
Killed one of those things inside my house a few years ago ~ i've never seen one in Austin anywhere before or after (13 years).
I keep seeing those damn long, black bugs with the pinchers every now and then. What are they called and how do I get rid of them? We had pest control come out a few weeks ago and I see more of them now. Granted, many are dead so maybe the stuff is working.
Sea snakes, brown, tiger, and fierce/taipan snakes are some of the most poisonous snakes known. The brown, tiger, and taipan are all in Australia - usually considered home of the most venomous snakes on the planet. What's crazy is as poisonous as these things are, Australia is home to another animal even deadlier - the box jellyfish. That thing will seriously mess you up.
One of those "bad girls" built a web in my garage two years ago. We actually just left her alone to do her thing... until her belly started swelling up. Then I sprayed her. There is no way I'm going to let hundreds of those things hatch in my garage.
The Fierce and and sea snakes are very shy though and very rarely ever bite humans. The Brown is responsible for the most bites in Australia - it likes to take refuge in people's garages and barns. But the Taipan is just a rabid creature. That thing has a nasty temper and will often chase humans or kill other animals just for the hell of it. At least with the Box, you can just fully cover yourself with a wetsuit and you're okay. In Africa, the Black Mamba is known for being the fastest land snake on Earth. It is so fast (partially) because it moves with the front of its body raised up high off the ground and this reduces overall surface friction. The Green Mamba is relatively tame and rarely bites people. The Gabon Viper is responsible for the most bites in Africa because it tends to lay motionless and camoflauged within the forest floor foliage. It is also known for having the largest fangs of any snake. The Puff Adder has the fastest strike of any snake - it is lightning quick. The Boomslang has a very potent venom, but small rear fangs and it must slowly 'chew' the venom into its prey much like a Coral snake does. In Latin America, the Fer de Lance (a type of Viper like the Rattlesnake) is responsible for the most bites. But the King Cobra in Asia logs the most bites of any snake species each year. It is also the largest of all poisonous snakes. By the way, I think that Cobra/Mongooses pic is legit.
