    in retrospect, i agree with you that A++ is pretty high regards, A+ should be the superstar standard. Maybe I rate Tracy and A and Yao an A+.

    Does anybody believe that many players around the league DO NOT wish to play with Kobe? Possible.

    It seems that we've strayed somewhere from the official T5PES (TopFive Player Evalution System). You guys are making it unnecessarily complicated with all these + and - and ++ and the like -- it's really pretty simple. And since I invented it, I suppose I should explain it, using the Rox and Suns for examples...

    A = all-star or near-all-star level talent
    examples: Yao, T-Mac, Nash, Amare, Marian

    B = solid NBA starter or KEY bench player
    examples: Battier or Raja Bell as solid NBA starters, Barbosa and Head as key bench guys

    C = rotation players or weak starters
    examples: Chuck Hayes, James Jones

    I don't even count the end-of-the-bench guys, as they seldom matter in a game. (How many game-winners did V-Scram hit last year?)

    Let's apply this to a roster by giving 10 points for an A talent, 5 for B, 1 for C. The total should be an indicator of that team's relative strength.

    Using the Suns, Rockets, Lakers and Grizzlies and looking at their final 2007 rosters, here's what I come up with (YMMV):

    Suns

    A-level (10 pts)
    Nash
    Stoudemire
    Marion

    B-level (5 pts)
    Bell
    Barbosa
    Thomas
    Diaw

    C-level (1 pt)
    Jones

    end of bench (0 pts)
    Rose, Piatkowski, Banks, Burke

    TOTAL = 51

    Rockets

    A-level (10 pts)
    T-Mac
    Yao

    B-level (5 pts)
    Battier
    Head
    Howard
    Alston

    C-level (1 pt)
    Hayes
    Snyder
    Mutombo

    end of bench (0 pts)
    Spanoulis, Tsakalidis, Lucas

    TOTAL = 43

    Lakers

    A-level (10 pts)
    Kobe
    Odom

    B-level (5 pts)
    Walton
    Parker

    C-level (1 pt)
    Brown
    Evans
    Bynum
    Cook
    Radmanovic
    Turiaf
    Farmar

    end of bench (0 pts)
    Vujacic, Williams, McKie

    TOTAL = 37

    Grizzlies

    A-level (10 pts)
    Gasol

    B-level (5 pts)
    Miller
    Atkins
    Warrick
    Gay

    C-level (1 pt)
    Swift
    Kinsey
    Jones
    Stoudamire

    end of bench (0 pts)
    Roberts, Harrington, Cardinal, Johnson, Padgett

    TOTAL = 34

    Of course, it's all subjective and arbitrary, but it does paint a fairly accurate portrait of the overall strength of a team -- weighed heavily toward star players, but still considering quality of other starters and key guys and bench strength.

    Flame away! I can take it!

    not bad ^^

    but i would put barbosa in the A level talent the guy is a near all-star 6th man of the year and totally changes the game whenever he comes in. He is by far the the biggest threat out of all the "b" level guys you have listed there.

    either way it just showed how sorely we lacked in true talent compared to other teams. the lakers even more so.

    If I was kobe I would be asking to be traded or trade away "their future" for someone now. players like kobe are true franchise player that rarely come around, especially one of kobe's talent. Instead of hoping for bynum to develop (which looks like he will be a good solid center in the league but probably not what they had originally had hoped) i would try to get the most out of the prime years kobe has.

    to me getting fisher and resigning mihm will not translate into playoff success, more wins? of course but not a significant jump i am gonna say 45-46 wins total (they had what 42,43 last year?) the offseason isnt over of course but i am willing to bet kobe is going to opt out first chance possible if kupchak continues to sit on his hands like he is when it comes to making major moves

    Agreed. He is probably the best player in the league, but regardless of his or Shaq's interpretation as to why Shaq went to Miami, they all agreed (Phil included) 3 years ago - Kobe wanted to be number one, and Jerry Buss obliged. Period.

    Kobe has no one to blame but himself. The only thing that would have made me happier is if he signed with the Clippers, and Donald Sterling became el-cheapo again.

    I understand this notion, but I always like to see top 5 (top 1 in his case) players winning games!

    The real funny part in all this is Kobe has been over the top demanding a trade and being an ass... wanting over to the creampuff East for a title shot. Kevin Garnett on the other hand is sitting there fiercely loyal for years, never demanding a trade and basically had to be kicked out of Minnesota.

    So who gets the title shot in the creampuff East? KG.

    If Kobe is serious about wanting to play for a contender and serious about wanting a trade, something has to give. Either Kobe realizes how much he craves/wants LA even if they suck (which they're going to do), or the Lakers cave and trade him.

    If the Lakers do get serious about dealing him, wouldn't they want to contact the Rockets? I understand that a team like Chicago could offer younger pieces, but you have Odom and Phil Jackson there and the need to keep selling tickets. You'd be looking at a highly marketable player (McGrady), a very strong role player (Battier) and possibly a young guy in Aaron Brooks.

    I'm not saying the Rockets should do it ... just seems like LA and Houston would talk. That, to me, is premium value for Kobe... especially when you consider what Minny just got for KG.

    I don't want Kobe for that price Clutch....it just seems too much. Tmac and Kobe are fairly close....and then you toss in Battier and Brooks.......

    I would rather take my chances with a bulky back Tmac.......at least he passes the ball.

    Man, I hope you're wrong. I don't want Kobe anywhere near the Rockets.

    Lakers will not trade Kobe for TMac, simply due to TMac's back. They can get a better offer from the Bulls.

    Same here, for all Kobe's talent his mindset and selfishness is just too much too bear, I would feel conflicted to the extreme if he were ever to join my beloved Rockets

    Read the post, He is not advocating the trade but he's saying the Rockets are an instant contender simply because of our surplus youth potential. He's right that they would talk and seeing as what KG got, I think Tmac, Battier and Brooks is definitely max market value, way too much for a player who I feel will bring too much baggage. I would prefer a Tmac, James, Brooks deal, although there little chance that Kupchack would take Tmac because of age concerns. If I am sitting in MK's shoes, I would take a deal from the Bulls (as long as heard the names Deng and Gordon involved).
