I just find it amusing that in this forum the Chinese have replaced whites as being the opponents of the "brothers" in the race relations arguments. I guess if the whites aren't available to be attacked, then the brothers have to find somebody, lest they lose everyone's pity and attention for the moment.

first of all, i don't think the people here arguing about race are chinese. some people here are just being sarcastic and registering stupid names like iamfrombeijing or something with words dragon or yinyang or whatever they think being chinese is to make weak imitations and start ****.

So if none of the brothers did *not* attack anyone, you are saying that all of the brothers did attack someone.

    Agreed

You're right, you got me, I made an english miss step. At least I'm not complaining about some silly Smirnoff Ice commercial. I guess we attacked you then too, or when everyone was crying about Shaq's comments, yeah, we were attacking you. That's silly. And finally, the last thing I need in my life is your pitty. You seem to be the one fixated on race relations anyway. Everytime someone says something about race you pop up. Yet you say everyone else is fixated on it. What a hypocrite.

first of all, i don't get why you're comparing asian-african race relations to white-african race relations. they're different people.

and i don't know why people want to discuss racial issues they don't understand. that smirnoff ice commercial was probably made by a white guy. as for shaq's comments, those were ill-advised. and the reason why what he said was offensive was because the guy obviously used an intimidation tactic by first of all saying he'd greet yao with an elbow and then taunting his ethnic heritage by making strange noises (ching-chong-yang-wa-ah-so) and doing mock kung fu moves. a couple of reasons why what he said was offensive are 1. chinese doesn't sound anything like that. 2. there are 56 nationalities in china with many different languages and different cultures. one majority nationality, the Han, and 55 minority groups. The peoples identified as Han comprise 91 percent of the population from Beijing in the north to Canton in the south and include the Hakka, Fujianese, Cantonese, and other groups. that was just a brief exerpt from chinese history. 3. people think the only thing chinese people are good for is stupid kung fu movies and making them fortune cookies. (which shows that shaq thought yao couldn't play basketball cause he was chinese and he thought all he knew was kung fu and he obviously didn't think he understood english so he made those strange noises.) 4. people don't understand enough about chinese culture to make jokes for people to tell the difference between it being sarcasm or reality.

what shaq said does not mean there's a lot of animosity between asians and blacks. it just reflects on american ignorance of chinese culture and how chinese have been degraded over the years by ignorant people. by the way, this is just a brief summary of a novel i'm writing. stupid racial stereotypes americans came up with. by spiral

do i need to explain further so you can understand?

    Spiral,

    Thanks for your thesis, but

    A) I never said it was Asian posters complaining about the commercial and

    B) I never said Shaq shouldn't have to apologize for his comments and

    C) I initially only responded to Dr. of Dunks post because black posters are always getting blamed for bringing up race.

"when everyone was crying about Shaq's comments, yeah, we were attacking you. "

this is what i wanted to explain to you. asians are not crying about shaq's comments. they're mainly offended because of his lack of knowledge on the culture and how he stereotyped something he doesn't even understand. if he understood something about the culture and he made a joke. everybody can tell he was being sarcastic. most of the white jokes people make are sarcastic. the jokes people make about asians are degrading because they don't know anything about our culture.

What? You are illusional, "The brothers" here dont get into nothing with chinese about race relations here. If anyone understands what Chinese go through it is "The Brothers" And white's being attacked? Man get a clue. Sometimes I really wish people who weren't minority's could experience being one just for a week, otherwise dont even pretend to understand what Chinese or Blacks go through. Im not even going to comment further on this in the forum, hit me directly if you want to continue this discussion.....

Like I said in another thread, I heard 50% of people who use a female name on the net are actually men.

Roll your dice. Keep rolling! :D

I look at it this way:

Yao was super hyped soming into the season by some and some thought he was going to be a bust. I believe that he met nearly every expectation during his rookie season. Meeting those expectations with his offseason schedule, the language barrier, and no training camp is incredible and can't be overlooked.

He had all of the skills we had heard about, and his adjustment to the speed of the league has taken about as long as expected. He started out unable to play big minutes(15-20), and now you can count on him for 30+ a night.

Overall, Yao showed critics that he was for real and proved what his supporters have been saying all along, that he will soon be a dominant force in this league, and for a long time.

Amare was destined to be a bust and at the very least a big project. He was fresh out of HS, dominating smaller people, had massive family problems, and no real NBA skills. Had the Suns screwed up? When the ESPN draft grades came out, the Suns were at a B-, and the Rockets got an A.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/story?id=1399492

To quote Chad Ford: "It was a strange draft for the Suns. Stoudemire might be the Antonio McDyess replacement they've pined for the past few years, but he's a long way away."

He wasn't projected as a starter until Tom Gugliotta went down. He took little more than physical attributes and intense desire and has, by all counts, greatly exceeded every expectation set for him before the start of the season and established himself as one of the premier PF's of the future of the NBA.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

The numbers are very close, one guy met all of the lofty expectations set for him and one guy greatly exceeded any expectation placed upon him.

Does either one of them really deserve to lose the ROY award because of that?

    Not in my book.

I hope that race did not play very much of a role in these guys' decision to give their votes to Amare, as we all know both blacks and asians have both been very much misundertood by the mainstream culture. However, Kenny's preseason remarks about foreigners invading the NBA) did smack of a little xenophobia. I'm glad Welsch stood up and said something, just as I would be glad to see an African American stand up if someone said something unfair about blacks.

Rookie of the year? Although the Suns are clearly the better team, Amare is a ROLE PLAYER, as Vlade said. Yao, though inconsistent at times, was a key to the ROX success and often the focus of the opponent's defensive strategy and, equally as often, the reason for their offensive ineptitude.
