When the Rockets were playing well and Yao was getting more of the accolades, no one here was complaining. If the Suns pull a major meltdown and Yao gets ROY, no one here will complain.

We can't have it both ways. Unless you feel that there is a significant difference between the Suns & Rockets rosters exclusive of Amare & Yao, then making the playoffs or at least finishing strong will be a major criteria.

Let's just live with it. I am clueless who won the ROY in the '93-'94 season, but I can sure tell you who got the rings. ;)

I agree. We were suppose to have as good (or better) team than Phoenix and Phoenix is finishing up better than us.

I have no problem with it.

But, I think the NBA may "fix it" so it's another Co-ROY.

I'll take a back seat to ROY. Olajuwon did. And it motivated him, eventually.

I hate to say it but if suns do end up going to the play offs and we don't then, amare does deserve that reward. As much as I love Yao, I gotta be fair. Amare helped his team intot he play offs ... our team is sitting on a couch watching amare and the suns in the play offs...

I feel those commentators picked Amare because he is the flavor of the month right now. Their team is playing well and is going to make the playoffs. I if you asked them to give you specific reasons for picking Amare over Yao they couldn't give you any reason that you couldn't refute with a Yao argument. I notice a lot of "basketball commentators" are picking Amare and a lot of basketball "writers" are picking Yao. It is obvious the "writers" understand more about the game in terms of seeing the global view of both players and are not focusing on the quick highlights etc.

But back to Yao vs Amare.....

Truth be told the Suns have TWO all stars AND Amare. The Rockets have ONE all star and Yao. So really the Suns have a better team and MORE to work with. Not sure which talking head said this, Ric Bucher perhaps, but on the Suns, Amare is just a "role player" to Stephon and Shawn. On the Rockets with Yao we are running our offense THROUGH Yao. The Suns are NOT running their offense through Amare. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Opposing teams "game plan" Yao Ming on the Rockets, they don't game plan Amare Stoudamire. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Bottom line is that Yao has had to work HARDER to get the things done that he has accomplished. So what does that tell you? Yao has either the same or better numbers for the Rockets than Amare has and at the same time has had to work harder to get those numbers!

Then you add in the factor that he is in a totally new country and is learning a new language and is carrying the weight of the China world on his shoulders to boot. That is A LOT of pressure!

Quite frankly I would be shocked if Yao is not the outright winner of ROY award or at least Co-winner. Yao getting shut out of this award just tells me that voters were more impressed with SportsCenter flashy dunks than taking a global view of what really is going on with both teams and both individuals.

Agree with Gater. Awards are for losers.

P.S. The black-Asian "you're a racist -- no, you are" game is real old. Give it a rest.

Its a great Honor to be selected as Rookie of the Year. Its an Honor to the individual and to the Organisation. By the sounds of your vocabulary you wouldnt know what honor is!

Amare was only a Role Player to the Suns. Yao Ming was a main contributur to the Rockets. There should be no question about Rookie of the Year Yao Ming produced better stats in scoring FG % Assists Blocks, Double Doubles and efficiency . He is the one to select. Yao Ming should improve during the last three games and make things quite clear that he is the best Rookie and was truly worth the #1 pick.

The fix is on guys. If Yao doesn't win, there'll be alot of people crying foul. If Amare doesn't win, there'll be alot of people crying foul. They'll share the award, but it really doesn't mean a thing for the guy that doesn't make the playoffs this year or in the future.

At this point, I don't care about useless awards like player of the month, rookie of the year, player of the week, and all the other BS the NBA is about now.

Their reasoning was, both teams made one addition(Amare/Yao) and since the Suns will be making the playoffs, Amare deserves the award.

Did they consider Yao's lack of training camp?
Did they consider how much better Starbury is compared to Steve?
Did they consider how much better Marion is compared to Mobley?

I'd like to point that no black posters responded to those ridiculous comments although we are always getting blamed for bringing up the race card.

yeah, pgagabriel. i didn't want to bring it up. just like stupid questions get stupid answers, stupid comments usually get stupid replies. i've always hated being called a "brother"... by anybody.

    anyway...

i wouldn't mind seeing amare getting the award. maybe it would push yao to proving everybody wrong at that he should be the focal part of the rox offense. unfortunately, my vote (not that it counts or anything) goes to amare. right now, all yao is is a bundle of talent... you know... like everybody says griffin has. not beating up on griffin because it's almost primarily the coaching staff's fault. yao should win the award, but his teammates and coaching staff haven't utilized him like they're supposed to.

who gives a damn about individual accolades anyway?

As if you never have made corny jokes, but I guess your perfect.. Sweep around your own front door before you try to sweep around his. Bottom line is you guys love to hate Shaq..

Yao has had only 4 bad games huh? Yao has been the single most consistent player on the Rockets team all year? I dont know what games you have been watching but clearly they were not the rockets games... I can possibly agree that the reason that Yao has not had more of an impact is partially because Rudy and the team. You can put part of the blame on that fact. At the sametime Yao is a 7'5 beast, he has to learn how to get his, just like Amare does. Yao has shown flashes of brilliance no doubt, but we cant have our cake and eat it too. Fact is Amare was the better rookie this year. His team is the better team this year. You can argue the fact that we are 3-1 against them but that doesnt mean jack if their in the playoffs and we're not. Someone esle said that he is playing with Stephon and Sean Marion who are better than Steve and Cuttino. If he had posted that same thought at the beginning of the season, 95 percent of this board would have flamed the hell out of this guy. I am proud of Yao and what he has accomplished this year, I thought he was going to be a bust (I openly admit that I was wrong). Given the oppurtunity to choose between the 2 of them, I would still pick Yao over Amare in the draft. Yao has a huge upside (lets face it 7'5 does not come around every draft) But I am not blind to the fact that No one would have ever figured a guy coming str8 out of high school, what put up the same numbers as Yao. And help his team in the same amount as Yao THIS YEAR. Yao will be more valuable in the long run but this year Amare deserves the award thats the bottom line. Dude just be fair about it. Nothing personal dont get your panties all knotted up cause someone deserves to beat out our beloved Yao. You win some you lose some thats just the way it is...

I've never been a Charles Barkely fan...except when he missed those two free throws in Phoenix during the second playoff run.

Hope he still has nightmares bout' that.

    Amare's Last 10 games:
    Min.....Points...FG%.....RPG.....BPG
    30........17......57.........6.........3 (Mavs)
    20..........3......14.........5.........2 (Nugs)
    32........16......50.........7.........1 (Lakers)
    21........10......71.........7.........2 (Wolves)
    36........16......33.........9.........1 (Nugs)
    34........15......55.........8.........1 (Pacers)
    26.........7.......50.........6.........0 (Pistons)
    41........22......47.........9.........2 (Grizzlies)
    21.........9.......57.........6.........2 (Sonics)
    22.........9.......50.........2.........2 (Mavs)

If your argument for Amare is consistent games, then you should be scratching your head comparing his 2 games vs. the Nuggets in the last 10 games to each other (likewise, with his 2 games against the Mavs). So yeah, Amare can be inconsistent too.

And all I did here was take his last 10 games to be fair. If I had chosen to cherry pick the bad games only, I could pulled out any of his 20+ single digit scoring outings, his numerous games of shooting under 50% from the field (there's a reason his FG% is only .468 (pathetic for someone who only dunks)), or his 10+ games where he couldn't even get 5 rebounds.

No. Amare is in no way clearly Rookie of the Year.
