The only problem with that theory is the top 15 kickers (in our league) last year were separated by 20 total points, or just over a point a game........

So it might have been better served, why all the so-called-fantasy experts say don't take a kicker to the last round or two, to try and get one of those sleeper/"feeling lucky" picks.......

And if someone thinks getting the #25 LB is going to be worth 20 points more than the #30 LB, they should definitely go ahead and draft that guy instead. Or if they think the #46 RB is going to be worth 20 more points than the #50 RB, go that route.

And if I thought 45 year old Fred Taylor was a viable fantasy option, I would have drafted that guy, too. :p

My point was you get the 15th kicker or the first kicker, there really is no difference. Unlike potential "sleepers" at other positions (which you are hoping to find), especially since there are injuries in football, last I checked. That #46 RB may not be worth much more than #50, unless the guy in front of him gets hurt, than #46 can leapfrog real quick to #15 or so (hence the word "sleepers"). That could be a big difference in the outcome, unlike anything you could hope from on the kicker front.......

For the record, I will gladly take Taylor as my 6RB over Bironas (who was my 12th rated kicker)... :D :p

I was taking you at your word on the kicker difference until I actually looked at the league page myself... the top kicker scored 159 and the 15th best kicker scored 129, which is a difference of 30 points.

Compare that to the difference between some of the defensive positions. The top LB scored 162, the 15th best scored 129, for a total difference of 33 points. And yet you've got LBs being drafted in the 5th round? The top DB scored 134 points and the 15th best scored 99 points, for a total difference of 35 points. But people are drafting DBs in round 11. The top DL scored 114 and the 15th best DL scored 79.5, for a difference of 34.5 points, and people started drafting DL in the 7th round.

Surely if a pick on a K is wasted in round 14, then picks on those defensive positions are definitely wasted in rounds 5, 7, and 11. Right?

I think the kicker advice that comes the fantasy football websites and magazines makes people wait until the last round to grab one, but our league is somewhat unique in using all the individual defensive guys instead of just picking a defensive team. If all the websites used the same system we did, they would be giving the same advice about waiting until the end of the draft for the defensive positions, especially DB and DL.

Anyway, good luck with your draft. ;)

First off, I was little off by the first 15 (still on per week basis, no big difference), but if you take the first 12 kickers (as that is all that will be drafted in our league) will amount to a little over 1 pt per game (159 to 136 total points) on average...no big deal.

As far as your LB comparison, I am with you there, which is why I did not draft one till round 11 and have not even focused much on my defense since (only have made 2 defensive picks). As I mentioned in an earlier post, I switch those guys around all season long anyways, so I am not going to waste a 5, 7, or earlier round pick - I'll let others do that.

Anyways this is enough posting on your defense of a kicker about 5 rounds to early - he would have still been there then....... :p

Further proof, last year was a fluke.......... :D

Kickers are so random, though. The guy ranked #15 last year has just as much chance of finishing top 5 as the guy ranked #2.

ehh thought it was round 13...although the first pk did go in 13 and I this is where we reached the point of people running out of players.

I seriously doubt anything matters once you get past say round 12-13, every pick afterward is pretty much subjective and you're talking about marginal fantasy points after the first few IDPs are taken.

You'll end up dumping most of the guys taken after round 13 anyway.

I have no idea what I'm even doing. I'm a baseball diehard, football not so much. Which you can tell by me drafting a THIRD STRING QB. Wtf?

Edit- Rook, I waived him but please put him back on my roster so the draft isn't screwed up or just let me lose that pick. After looking at my roster and your guys roster, I am bottom of the barrel. My team BLOWS.
