Does anyone know how much it costs to replace a smashed rear windshield on a Honda Accord?

me and my roommates went to go pick up some food earlier today, we were only gone for 20 minutes, and when we got back one of my roommate's back windshield was totally smashed...there was no rock, brick, beer bottle, baseball or anything in or around the car...the weirdest thing was that nothing was stolen...

...we got it fixed here in austin and it cost him $399 + tax

    ...oh and its a 2-door 2001 Accord

It's possible that it could have shattered by itself. One time after work a co-worker of mine was getting into his SUV and the back window shattered into a million different pieces. It was really strange.

That happened to me once in an old Toyota Tercel I used to drive when I lived in Los Angeles. I got in the car, shut the door, and the passenger side window shattered. Weird!

Wouldn't cover the deductible most likely.

One time my parents and I pulled into the garage in our van and all got out and closed the doors. A moment later, the back windshield blew itself out. It was really weird. Something about a pressure differential, maybe? But how come it never did that all the other times we slammed the doors?

i think this has to do with the weather, a year or so back when a storm hit baytown and took out part of our mall's wall there were reports of windshields breaking. My profs explained that the shifts in the pressure from the weather causes the window to shatter if there isnt a window cracked to balance the pressure. im sure you can google it and find a better explanation.

This theory would work if cars were completely sealed units when the windows are up. They aren't.

One thing I see alot in the insurance industry is glass breakage due to thunderstorms, especially if the glass has a small chip/crack/defect in it.

Hmmm. I wouldn't think that would happen so much, but maybe I'm naive when it comes to stuff like that.... I think I'll take DT's offer to fix my rock chips through Jiffy Lube before something worse happens to it.
