Oh, and many times Amazon sells refurbished phones instead of new ones... so beware (but refurbs have the same warranty, so meh)
Sprint has cracked down on their SERO (Sprint Employee Referral Offer) program from what I've heard and are trying to get everyone on their Simply Everything plans. From what I've read is that the new 4G phones require those new Everything plan and will not work with SERO plans. Also longtime customers of Sprint are given considerable leeway when it's time to reup their contract, a lot of Sprint customers use this time to ask for additional things to the phone/plan at discounted or no cost. Sprint's customer service has been negatively commented in the past, but I hardly talk to them. Agreed on the Sprint Data plan, you can use theirs till the cows come home, they don't seem to care unless in extreme cases. Sprint's area coverage in Houston is varied from what I heard/read. Some areas get great coverage and some don't. Proper Houston area (610 loop and around area) you should be ok. I haven't had the pleasure of having the EVO yet and the lack of a physical keyboard is making me hesitate. But I am very tempted myself, I was waiting to see if a keyboard version of the EVO will come out. I believe someone here is a Sprint employee and another a Verizon employee, maybe they can speak up about the discounts.
Sprint EVO. Unless the $69.99 Verizon deal makes it to your area (currently Verizon is offering an identical plan to Sprint's in select places) in which case you have some thinking to do.
so what's the difference between luxurious and fabulous? Seriously, I'll play around with the store demo next time I'm near a Sprint store.
Verizon Clutch. It's where them white girls at. I have been curious about the Sprint EVO though... seems really nice.
I have the EVO. It is awesome. But really, you will have to charge it twice a day most of the time. There's no getting around that regardless of which settings you change. But yeah, Sprint's network is outstanding. I've been using them for years and have pretty much never had a dropped call. The 4G doesn't work everywhere though so keep that in mind. However, all things said I would definitely recommend the EVO over anything else.
I use Sprint. It's the cheapest. The coverage and quality is mostly good. I wouldn't consider it outstanding but it's comparable to the other big brands (definitely better than T-Mobile). I live in the Austin area and my 3g Sprint connection has been stable...around 120 kb/s (DSL speeds). My phone's a Sprint Diamond. Definitely get in on a corporate discount later on. They range up to 25%. I think fatwallet usually has a zany scheme to get a higher one, but I couldn't find it in my casual search. If you get a fancy phone, you might want to look into their ERP insurance feature. It's either 4 or 7 bucks a month depending on the coverage and if you're to lose your phone (or "lost it" in the toilet), you pay a 100 bucks deductible for the replacement. The 7 dollar plan covers broken stuff and water damage. Not sure if you pay the deductible for replacements. There's a rumor that on October 1st, SERO plans will be able to upgrade to "Android devices" on October 1st for an extra 10 bucks a month. 4g will be an additional 10. They've been clamping down on the discounts recently. I still have high hopes for renegotiating during October. I'm aiming for the Epic. The processor is better, nicer screen, and keyboard. From what I've read in reviews, the 4g hotspot is slower than the Evo's, no mini-hdmi port, and some funky aGPS bug that's systemic for all Galaxy S phones.
I'm on Sprint, with four other people. I get what you said, from Sprint, and pay about 35 bucks a month for it. I have the HTC Hero, and haven't had any complaints, other than my phone sometimes runs slow. Remember, Sprint roams on Verizon's network, and I believe roaming is free on that plan....
Go for T-Mobile Clutch!!! HTC Touch Pro 2. Keyboard is amazing. Windows Mobile. You're a business man so it's a perfect fit for you!
Windows Mobile 6.5 sucks ass, and Touch Pro 2 is last years phone. My phone has it, and I would rather tether my ipod Touch than mess with it. The difference is night and day. Once you switch out, you can't switch back.
I've had sprint for probably 10 years. Their service isnt bad, I get reception in most places people who have ATT or verizon dont. I pay around 80 a month, and the plan is basically unlimited with the blackberry...if you want a "refurbed" blackberry curve i have one thats still has the plastic on it, just let me know and its yours. I want to get an evo in near future
i feel betrayed Clutch.... j/k  my two views *off the clock* Sprint's coverage in Houston is as good as Verizon's in my opinion, it just matters outside of Houston, Verizon is superior in both voice and data. If you want to save monthly, can't go wrong with Sprint's monthly plans. The HTC EVO 4G phone is killer, can't complain anything about it, other than the HTC Sense. The HTC Sense UI thats installed on most HTC Android phones is nice, but at times bother the hell out of me and would rather just download my own or even purchase a few from the market and install them myself. *back on the clock* If EVO is your deciding point, you may want to wait for another similar HTC device just like the EVO coming to Verizon, could be this Nov. when 4G rolls out in an estimate 30-40 markets, not sure if Houston is going to be one of them. The first leak was posted last week if your looking to save per month and not really going to be in areas in the middle of nowhere (rural areas) then Sprint is your best bet. Verizon is more expensive, but its really because of the superior network.
Wish I could carry my Sprint Sero plan over to a new phone. Unlimited text/data and 500 minutes for $29.99/month.
the verizon/sprint femtocell doesn't support 3G data, so you're still dependent on wifi for that. also no one charges 100 bucks a month for it..with ATT it's 150 bucks to buy and no charges afterward. ATT/Tmobile supports 3G data also.
I believe what Verizon is offering is a $99 unlimited voice/data plan to attempt to match Sprint's simply everything unlimited everything plan. It's actually still inferior to Sprint's $99 plan since it does not include free navigation, and most people use the $69.99/450 SEP plan anyway which Verizon doesn't have any match for. Plus the ETF on Verizon is horrid ($350? Ouch). Sprint's is $200 and it decreases every month...I even got them to waive it early for me once on a second line I had to cancel. At this point I still don't care if Verizon offers a phone that walks on water -- it's not going to be worth the extra money I'm spending on that contract. Happy, satisfied Sprint customer for 10 years and counting.
