This is tragic. I really feel awful about this. It's very sad and shocking. I hope his family can get through this. He was married with one son.

It seems like FDNY did a great job. They reportedly were on the scene less than two minutes after it happened. They put out the fire quickly and there appears to be no major structural damage to the building, because on tv you could see firefighters on the floor, right where the windows used to be on the floor.

This is tragic. I can't imagine how terrofied people where in the area that it happened. For all they knew it could've been another 911. 4 people died including Lidle. Tragic. :(

Don't feel sorry for Lidle - feel sorry for the people in those apartments who died as a result of his stupidity.

WTF in their right mind would fly a plane around Manhattan in crap weather/low visibility without clearance?! There are reports the plane was "doing acrobatics" around the high rises!

    WTF!

caboose.. True. That's why I brought up the fact that someone mentioned that the date resembled 9-11.. because now it is kind of instinct to assume it could be terrorist attack.

I imagine anything like this has to bring up memories of 9-11 to New Yorkers.

Sadly, people are dead... even though it was just an accident.

Yeah it sucks. I'm sure New Yorker's were probably very very scared since it's a bad coincidence. 11th of the month 1 month after the 5 year anniversary. Also this happened in NYC.

    BREAKING NEWS:
2 PEOPLE WERE ON BOARD. 2 DIED IN THE BUILDING.
10 INJURED. SOME HURT FIREFIGHTERS AND SOME HURT RESIDENTS

I wonder exactly how it happened. I assume it was due to the whether because it is a bad day for flying but who knows.

Maybe we should wait until we actually know what happened before calling someone who just passed away a dumbasss.

Now come on now. It's too early to pass judgement on this. Give it some time. Bloomberg's giving a press conference.

They don't even know for sure if Lidle was driving the plane. There were two people in it. Even if it was, it doesn't make him a "dumbass". Maybe he picked a bad day to flight but I'm 100% sure he did not plan on putting people's lives at risk.

I'm sure that was what it is.

Is anyone here really ignorant enough to believe that Lidle or whoever was flying it was doing acrobatic "tricks" in between city buildings? If someone did that and survived let's think of two the possibilities:
    - Suspension or total loss of flying license
    - Get arrested

You are not allowed to fly a plane over the city without clearance, but they can fly around the river I believe without clearance.

okay than I am 99% sure. Could you imagine a 34 year old pro baseball player, who never made headlines for doing stupid **** or causing much controversy, would fly a small plane around NYC buildings like he was performing an airshow?

Mayor Bloomberg is saying live on TV right now that only TWO dead bodies were found on the street. No one in the building died. He won't confirm the identities until next of kin is informed but he said it was a man and a woman. He said the plane left Teteboro airport in NJ flew by the Statue of Liberty then flew up the east river and lost radar contact with the plane around 59th street. Because the plane is small there won't be no black box or flight recorder.

The mayor also just reported that there was a flight instructor and a student. I doubt that a flight instructor would let his student fly like an ******* around New York City.
