I rooted for the Oilers from 1972 onwards, the Texans I am still not a die hard, kudos to those of you who are, I will probably never be as die hard, but I can be interested and cheer for them.

And since (by the mythical criteria of true fandom) I have almost everybody OUTFANNED on the Rockets, I don't mind being behind some people on the Texans.

And RM95, I do see your point about having to take it from people for so long and then having the bandwagon fill up when the team starts to do well.

So, to all you die hard fans......Good for you, give yourself a cookie !!

MSN is right though, there is no higher order of fandom....except in ones own mind......

I will happily take the wheel of the bandwagon bus and drive it around a spell.

    DD

PS. Ric, I am sure that Schaub's leadership has nothing to do with this turnaround...right?

    ;)

I wasn't even referring to any posts in this thread. The original question was whether or not bandwagon fans are OK--and in my book they are.

We've all seen the bitter diatribes against those "unfaithful", "disloyal" bandwagon fans who aren't "TRUE fans", (and "true" is almost always in all caps, often bolded, and often followed by many !!!!1!!!!111's). As if when someone doesn't have any interest in a bad football team with bad management he's Benedict Freaking Arnold. It's a game, for cryin' out loud.

If you were heartbroken when they didn't draft Vince (who is from Houston), I get it. If you were disinterested for the last five years because they sucked, I get it. And if you fall in either of those categories, and your interest is now piqued because they appear to no longer suck, welcome--at least in my book. Why is that such a problem for some people? Why do we have to inject moralistic terms such as "true", "loyal", or "faithful" into the conversation? What is this, a freaking marriage?

Now, RM95 brings up those who were trashing the team. Should they start wearing colors like everything was fine all along, I'm all for giving them all kinds of hell. At the same time, if they want to be fans now, good. As far as enduring comments and trash talk about the Texans for five long years, it's my problem if I was stupid enough to internalize that or take it personally.

I'm just having a discussion about sports; I'm not taking anything too seriously. You were the one who sounded offended. Chill out.

This topic is bound to come up again. When it does, and I state my position, please do remember that we understand one another.

Good-natured trash-talking I am all for. I didn't mean to come across bashing good-natured banter between friends.

You and I have both witnessed posts by...
That--and only that--is what I'm talking about. And yes, we *do* see it around here, quite often.

well let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. i agree that schaub can become a great QB, but so can VY and leinart truth be told.

but if schaub progresses like everyone is hoping and mario comes along as well..... well then that would be awesome.

Also in DFW. I'm sure the Colts are the reason they are on TV outside of Houston but that would be cool if it continued although I doubt it. :(

    No, you don't.

I don't think anyone here thinks they're better people because they've rooted for the Texans through thick and thin. I've never met one person who has ever felt that way despite having arguments with people about this very subject, so I'm not going to assume that others, while discussing an obviously heated issue in the context of sports, feel the same way.

Maybe the view from your high horse is better than mine, though...

So, you don't think there's a difference between a fan of the Rockets who posts on this website and one that may catch a game now and then on tv? Those who watch all pre-season, regular season and post-season games are on the same level of fandom as those who only tune in for the playoffs?

    Puhlease.

The true test will be when they play the Titans.....which team will you root for.....

I like Vince a lot, and want him to do well, but I like the Texans too......

So, when they meet, whichever way the heart pulls...that is the team that is truly your favorite.

    :)
What difference is there? It is their choice who am I to judge....each of us has to decide what level they are going to commit to a team, I have no problem with fans who casually follow the Rockets.....that gives me more people to talk to about my beloved team.

And, I don't think I am a better fan than them.....because I choose to follow every little detail, I think it just makes me obsessed.

Who said the word better? I'm not criticizing their choice of what they want to do with their lives. I'm just calling it what it is. Why does that upset you two so much?

My sister has one DMB CD and has seen them once (with me). I have every single CD they've released and will see them for the 21st time on Friday. But noooooooo, no way I can be a bigger fan than her.

i vote Rocketman95 the greatestest fan in the history of fandom. it is he, and he alone, who should choo-choo-choose who's allowed on the bandwagon. :p

Yes, I do. It's not that hard to fathom. You're not criticizing anyone's character, and you don't believe anyone else is, either. Fine. (How many times have I acknowledged this, yet you still have the gall to say I don't understand you?)

Thanks for the repitition, but I get it.

And, finally, thanks for the ad hominem. I never asked you to agree with me. Have a nice afternoon.
