it's not the same thing. The rockets have players that overemphasize contact when they feel they have been fouled or charged upon. Okur and Kirelinko especially CREATE contact and flop to the ground. I wouldn't mind the flopping if they didn't initially pull and tug at the player ahead of time. If you watch the plays in which they flop, they basically annoy and pester the heck out of the player until they shrug them off or forcefully box out. Then they flop.
I admit that Scola flops at times, but Battier doesn't. There is nothing fake about Battier's blood on the court.
I consider attempting to draw a charge entirely different than flopping. I consider flopping to be when a player intentionally flails or throws himself to the ground with little or no contact in an attempt to trick the referees into thinking hard contact was made. I consider falling to the ground after contact is made in an attempt to draw an offensive foul both legitimate and a way of protecting the defender AND the out of control offensive player from injury. That said, I don't think either Battier or Scola flop. I DO think that Scola intentionally tries to get into opponents heads with unecessary contact between plays to gain position as well as relentlessly tugging and pushing people during plays, similar to what Dennis Rodman used to do to hack people off. If I were a Jazz fan, Scola would irritate me.
The more Physical works. They actually get less calls this game. More Physical = Less Call against I like the strategy.
