It happens to me. It's really really strange the way that you feel a presence in the room and you can't move. Here is a book I have on it, that is a good read: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1413446698/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&v=glance
I always wondered what it was. It happens to me sometimes and it used to freak me out but now I kind of get used to it and haven't had it happen in a while. I couldn't never tell if I was dreaming or what but basically I would feel myself trying to lift my head or anything and I felt like i was weighed down and couldn't do a thing. I couldn't even make a noise other then like a weird moan. I would continue to press my body to get up and finally I would like spring awake and breathe heavy. I would always do a prayer afterwards when i was a kid before falling back asleep because I was freaked out and didn't now what it was.
Mine was real similar in that I couldn't move and had that same embarassing moan. When I came to though, I wasn't sweating or anything. It did feel like something was keeping me down, but I didn't feel any specific areas pressing on me.
This use to happen to me frequently when i was a kid. The first time it happened it was scary as hell. ITs like waking up but you cant open your eyes or move. I remeber i was trying to scream for my brothers help , we use to share a room, but i could't. Then i couldnt breathe and i though i was going to die. Then i just woke up up. Then it just started happening more and more often. The last time this happened to me though was like 1 year ago.. I was layin in bed watchin t.v. and guess i must of dozed off. anyways, i then woke in this paralyis state and felt like i has being held down really really hard. This doesn't creep me out anymore because i know its just sleep paralysis. It's just your mind being awake and your body still being in asleep . Sleep paralysis is actaully the first phase into lucid dreaming. If you dont panic during sleep paralysis you can have lucid dreams.
I had a similar experience a few years ago, just the once. At the time I thought it was 'something religious' and that I'd seen the 'face of god'. Spent the next couple of days freaking out - telling people I had had a vision...basically went mental for a short time. Comforting to read of others having similar experiences because looking back even now it seems pretty surreal.
I experience it a lot more often than I used to. Usually I will be falling asleep, and all of a sudden I hear a very loud wind around me, I feel like my head is swirling, but I can't move at all. I usually end up moaning as loud as I can and break out of it. It's comforting to know that all of what you experience is just a hallucination, because I'm sure your brain is confused as **** during the process. Also, ever wondered why people are 100% confident they saw a ghost or were abducted by aliens? Extreme case right here... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/omzsLqbgRaU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/omzsLqbgRaU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
it has happened to me a handful of times... i never got the "it's a ghost" feeling some people seem to think is there, just a feeling of "this really sucks because my eyes are open but i can't move of talk." feels like it lasts forever but probably never lasts more than 30 seconds i bet. hasn't happened in a year or two, though.

I've had sleep paralysis, and as many have said, it's not all that uncommon a condition. Basically, during REM sleep-- the phase of sleep during which we dream, the body is paralyzed below the neck so we don't act out what we do during dreams. Sometimes, we wake up without that signal for paralyzing the body being shut off. (I guess the reverse of this condition is sleepwalking). However, I never experienced the phantom kissing or slobbering along with it... perhaps you are having the "sleep paralysis" attack AND someone was slobbering on you, too? I mean, do you live near Kirk Snyder by any chance?
To add to the "ghost" theory, Muslims believe that sleep paralysis is caused by Jinn. It would be difficult to explain Jinn, but briefly speaking , they are not ghosts or demons, there are good and bad Jinn, they have existed before humans, still exist, and are made from smokeless fire (technically, Satan is Jinn and also made of smokeless fire in Islamic tradition but because he was so good at doing God's will, was given the "status" of "angel"). People still believe the sleep paralysis theory despite Muslim doctor Ibn Sina noting (I believe around the year 900AD, not sure if his description is accurate) that: The rationale today is that Jinn bring on the conditions which cause sleep paralysis. I personally could care less how it happens, unless I can avoid it. Fun fact: the word "genie" (as in rub the lamp and get a wish genie) comes from Jinn. I'm also fairly certain that Jinn are mentioned in Jewish scriptures somewhere (have not comes across it in Christian scriptures though).
