I'm glad Slam takes it as a given he'll be in the Hall of Fame. What a weapon, especially at the end of games. Throw it up to the tallest player on the court and know he's going to hit both of his free throws.
why does every thread have to end up with a Lin debate? i like the dude but his fans are so unbearable
Lin is is GOD... Yao was a 7"6 freak but on a more serious note you guys basically ran him to the ground... could have played half court more... as having your guards walking the ball down the court.... plus he was another player your organization tried to change... having him add weight and bang down low... I remember him being a good shooter from 15 to 18 feet out
I've always been under the impression that you could absolutely win a championship with Yao as the number one. When he stepped on the court all eyes were on him every coach player gm and fan new he was limited in mobility but that never stopped him from dominating and shutting down front courts, while also holding the paint down on defense. Yao was extremely special just from his skill set then you add in that he was 7'6 325lbs and you see why no team had an answer for him. We know he could score in the post in a variety of ways and hit the mid range out to 18 feet but to me what brought it all together was Yaos incredible feel for the game. He knew what to do in any sequence and also is one of the best passers the game has seen regardless of position. He knew how to get his teammates going with easy looks he could pass out the post and high post. Yao made alot of hockey passes, meaning he was not forcing the action but making the right play. Defensivly he had his limitations as he had trouble with smaller quicker bigs who operated outside of the paint but he still was able to anchor a top 3 defense every yr in his short lived prime. IMO Yao was on his way to his first championship of many in 09 the team was perfect for him with shooters, stretch PFs, deep bench and Ron artest. We had the eventual champions number (Lakers) that yr. Yao was playing great that yr not forcing the action and letting the defense dictate what he did offensively that series. WCF would have been melo and the nuggets, they gave the rockets some problems in the reg. season but Houston had the advantage and imomwoukd been a short series. Then on the Orlando and Dwight for the finals..... We all know what Dwight's record and numbers were against Yao? Not very good lol. Mile Wilbon wrote an article about Yao when he retired showing the numbers he woulda had without the injuries and being able to play a 14 yr career (avg. for superstar) in the article he explains that Yao would have ended his career with over 20k point 10k rebounds and 2k blocks. With those numbers Yao would be considered a top 10 center of all time and with a few rings coulda jumped into the top 5 discussion. We'll never see another Yao Ming again he is a freak of nature no one his size has had the quickness and fluidity that Yao possessed at 7'6 325lbs to go along with elite skill set. Outside of Hakeem, Sabonis and Kareem I doth think their has been a more skilled center in the history of the sport.
"You guys" Once again people who don't know should shut up. Yao Ming has to play every off season for the Chinese team . Yao was actually an ironman until Tim Thomas fell on his foot. His foot injury was cause not "you guys" loFs dont need be on his thread. Period,
Are you serious? Or are you trolling? Yao Ming was a perfectionist. He was the first one in the gym and the last one. He also had no offseason; he had to play for China every year. Him banging down low was the reason why he was unstoppable. He was having a MVP caliber year before getting his first major injury.
Clearly you didn't watch any of the rockets back when Yao played? Because if you did you would know that the rockets were a slow half court team, Yao was a low post player from the jump we didn't change him we utilized him to his abilities. On china national team used him the same way we did..., on the block. Yao added weight because A) every player in pro sports gains weight even your idol JLin. And B) Yao got older, I don't know one person that doesn't ass muscle and weight as they got older. Get out of is thread yor disrespectful to all rockets fans and Yao fans. Yao was a superstar best player at his position top 10 player when he played. every basketball fan respects him. Lin gets no respect is a scrub to most ppl and we'll never be a superstar or allstar or a hof. He is not a GOD gtfo. This is Lins 4th yr in the league. Yao was already a 4x allstar playoff tested number one option. Lin won't every sniff that. It's ppl like you that make rockets fan and basketball fans hate LIN.
Gosh! Lin fans are a pain and an absolute disgrace to this site. Here is a thread about one of the all time greatest Rockets in Yao who gave everything for the Houston Rockets and still continues to embrace the Rockets despite going through adversity for a big part of his career and yet some Lin fans find a way to turn this into a thread about Lin. Face it. Lin will NEVER EVER come close to Yao is terms of basketball accolades, personality, community help etc. Lin is not fit to lace Yao's giant boots.
Umm other than spitting off facts!!!!! U lofs should leave theirs gotta be a jlin fan site somewhere or better yet go make it and have your legion of idiots follow. U guys out a disgrace to basketball fans. It's okay to root for the underdog but don't try and change the culture of the rockets or our history.
If yall stop arguing with them and just ignore the comments... It is obvious that Yao was much more profound; he was a global icon (1st of his kind), carried the Chinese flag for Olympics, and was a bonafide MVP candidate before injuries. Just ignore the brash comments: any Rockets fan knows of the impact and class of Yao. I miss the Great Wall; he was truly an inspiration.
We actually were strictly a half-court team when Yao was here. And when he started playing in the post he became the most dominant big man in the league. He wasn't Dirk, he was Yao, and healthy he was beast. The CBA totally destroyed him by never giving him any rest during the offseason. You can't play year round like that at his size. Blame it on the Chinese government. Yao could either play in the NBA or for the Chinese National team. He couldn't do both.
Yao Ming actually had an injury that stems back to him as a junior player with the Shanghai Sharks. He only got to skip playing for the Chinese National Team when he was injured. China is known for having overworking their players and having rigorous practices without the proper recovery. With that said, I still watch his rookie highlights and glad he brought it. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/CUnnWoRWvdA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> His impact for the game of basketball will continue to grow. I can't wait to see what the new Yao school brings.
Why do Lin fans have a probably with Yao? If anything, I'd expect the LOFs to slobber even harder for Yao.
