Even though the article is mainly about shoes, it's always good to see Hakeem getting some kind of recognition from the general public outside of Houston. http://www.slamonline.com/online/kicks/2010/06/sneakers-for-a-dream/
I was smiling the whole read! Awesome article, I think some readers that don't know much about Akeem are gonna be taken by his 1990 stats. 4.59 blocks a game is sick! Hey JBII, was that a good or great year? Not lettin that one go for awhile dude
And he rapped too. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMFjBl5VMaY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMFjBl5VMaY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
As good as that is, 2+ steals per game is even more impressive. Only center to be in top 10 all time in steals category.
Nice read, but the chronology seems a little strange. He was 5'5 and 13 years old, but playing on his elementary school basketball team?
Anyone remember when Dream had shoes a kmart? They were with spalding. I think he had a few come out I had the ones with the huge 34 on the side. Those shoes were a dream come true for a poor kid who also was a Dream fan
Definitely! He made sure to make those shoes inexpensive, something like 25 bucks, so kids would be able to get them. What a truly amazing guy!
I remember getting a pair of LA Gear Regulators at Beall's in 1990. They knocked the Reebok Pumps off my feet: I remember Hakeem's Spaulding shoes very well. I wouldn't have been caught dead wearing sneakers by 1995, though.
