Morey has basically said that he plans on red shirting PP, so unless there's a trade, injury, or major suckage on Hill's part, I don't think evaluation of PP will be complete until next year.
Thats more or less what i was hoping for, that they would buy a second round pick, because i think when all is said and done, he will end up being worthy of a first rounder, and he couldve been a huge steal.... like i said call me crazy and i will be the only one but i think he can be better than patterson.
Im going to be honest and rank PP when it comes to the 2010 NBA Draft before we even taught we had a shot at him. First, of all he was the biggest steal in the lottery and maybe the whole draft. Second he will problaby get a few minutes if Jordan Hill is healthy and stays with the Rockets. Third as far as pontential he can be a little better version of Paul Millslap just a little taller and alot more athletic which is a good thing because when Millslap started for Boozer two years ago and he was playing like a all star and PP shot will only get better and more consistently. Here goes my rankings of the rookies. 1. John Wall 2. Evan Turner 3. DeMarcus Cousins 4. Wesley Johnson 5. Derrick Favors 6. Greg Monroe 7. Al_Farouq Aminu 8. Cole Aldrich 9. Patrick Patterson 10. Ed Davis Udoh is bit Overrated and Gordon Hayward is the most overrated in the lottery. Luke Babbitt will be a better pro than Hayward.
Patterson Isn't Going To See Much PT This Year, But I Wouldn't Be Surprised To See Him Crack The Rotation Later On In The Season.
Morey > you. PP's Talent is probably not worth a 6th overall pick. However, you have to remember what Morey keeps preaching about PP. It's his character and professionalism that they value the most and sets him a part from the rest of the pact. Judging the rest of the draft, I rank PP #1 in character and professionalism. When i think of PP, I believe he will work hard his entire career. Unlike some players in this league who begin to slack or quit when they get multimillion dollar contracts.
Totally Agree. PP's Talent Is Definitely Not Worth A #6 Overall Pick. But When You Factor In His Ethics And Potential, He Skyrockets Up The Board. PP Was Definitely The Best Pick For Us And Maybe An Even Bigger Steal Than We All Think.
We heard you when you posted the first time, and we still don't care. Last time I checked, no one on Clutchfans referred to you as "The Wizard."
At PF there is Scola and a backup. The backup will be Hill or Patterson. Hayes IMO is the odd man out but on the pine. Everyone has his or her own opinion, but I think Hill has the advantage in height, speed, shooting and possibly rebounding and passing. Hill also has the flexibility to play center whereas center for 2Pat is a stretch (pun intended). Whereas I like 2Pat, I wish Morey didn't have an affinity for small PFs (6-7.5 despite the 7-1 reach). I realize I am no expert on scouting talent, but I really would have preferred a true center or SG in the draft (although I am happy we acquired Lee to reinforce that position).
But Morey and other GM's say this every year about drafted players, but that's not what necessarily happens. Landry, Brooks, and Budinger all played double digit minutes their first year in the NBA, and they weren't a lottery pick like Patterson was. After seeing Patterson in the summer league games, I think he is the guy who will be backing up Scola by the midway point in the season. What I like about Patterson is that it looks like he can be a complete player, not just an offensive or defensive specialist. I think he will eventually have both an inside and outside game on offense, and I expect him to be solid on defensive and rebounding. I'm really looking forward to this season.
Where They Were Drafted Has No Correlation With Play Time. Just Because Patteson Was A Lotter Pick Doesn't Mean Anything. You Earn Your Way Into The Rotation, Which I'm Sure PP Will Do.
Personally I felt that Wesley Johnson was one of the most overrated players in the draft, he just reminded me to much of Trevor Ariza. A long athletic guy that struggles to create off the dribble for himself and others. So If you remove Johnson from the top six you can kind of see where DM was coming from, when he said he had him at #6 in the draft... 1. Wall 2. Cousins 3. Favors 4. Turner 5. Monroe 6. Patterson 7. Aminu 8. Johnson 9. Aldrich 10. Davis --RB
Yes, I agree. My post was mainly responding to the comment that "Morey has basically said that he plans on red shirting PP." I agree that Patterson will earn playing time fairly early into the season. I was pointing out that Landy, Brooks, and Budinger earned playing time in their first season even though they were not expected to make much of an impact due to their draft position. I think Morey tries to take the pressure off drafted players by saying they are not expected to make a large contribution their first year.
More than any reason I think Morey likes PP so much is because of the way he conducts himself. He is a team guy, good attitude and optimistic. Same reason he trade Gay for Battier. Morey likes smart guys, and Patterson is one. Plus, Patterson at was about where you would take him anyway. He is a great athlete with length, good footwork and speed for a big, and just works his ass off. He will probably end up taking over Scola's spot in 3 or 4 years.
Morey Definitely Does A Great Job Of That. I Think We All Know That Patterson Will Have A Significant Role Relatively Sooner Than We Are Being Lead To Believe. Like You Said, Morey Is Just Easing The Pressure. No Way He'd Throw Patterson Out To The Wolves By Saying He'll Be Anything More Than Present, For Now.
Just Thought I'd Share This Cool Pic With You Guys Since I'm A Newbie & Can't Start My Own Thread...Which Is Completely Understandable Because We Don't Want A Bunch Of Jackasses Flooding This Thread...But Disappointing When Something Of Substantiality Actually Comes Up...Like This
